Yikes. As the mother of a teenage son, who has a grandad and uncle with heart problems, this makes me a tad nervous:

Our Public Health teams (Ontario) are letting boys and young men know about the potential complication so that they are informed about seeking treatment if they have any symptoms at all. It's quite treatable.

We vaccinated a lovely young man from the UK today. He's in Canada for a two month stay and will receive both of his shots here before heading back to the UK. Of course he doesn't have a health card, so he was entered into our COVAX system using his name, address and birthdate as ID. He went through without a glitch, compliments of the Public Health system of Ontario.

Surely concerned officials in places like FL can do the same for their counties? Ask a judge to intervene, for the sake of their children.

I am not sure what I think about school starting. I have been looking at several school district websites, and it seems like things are absolutely all over the map in the United States.

My personal opinion is that this is going to be insanity. Especially for teachers. Trying to enforce mask rules in schools requiring masks, or deal with children not wearing masks, taunting other children who are wearing masks.

There really isn't a way to make everyone happy here.

No, there isn't. But fighting covid shouldn't be about keeping everyone happy, it should be about keeping everyone safe until the great majority get vaccinated. imo

The children shouldn't have to be the victims of unwise mask decisons. A great equaliser in schools are school uniforms (in countries that require them). I think the same could apply with masks. Have all the children wear them - school rule - and the situation is equalised for the children.

No rich, no poor, no anti-mask, no pro-mask, just school rules to follow.

In Australia we require all children to wear a school sunhat when they go out to play at recess and lunch. No hat, no outside. For sun safety reasons.

My local clinic is probably tired of me calling to ask about a booster shot. Yesterday, the nurse actually put the doctor on the line (that never happens!) and she explained to me that getting another dose of the vaccine won't increase my odds of not getting the Delta virus, because the current vaccines were not developed with the Delta virus in mind. She told me an effective booster shot would need to address Delta specifically.

I'm not completely sold on that explanation, but I'm not going to sneak around and get an underground shot.

I am concerned because the WHO wants wealthy nations not to pursue boosters until poorer nations are vaccinated. Why can't we do both? Why can't we develop boosters at the same time we're trying to vaccinate the rest of the world?

It's clear that Delta is affecting children at a higher rate than the original virus was, so you'd think requirements would reflect that.

But here in the US, we not only have a "Don't tell me what to do," attitude, we also have a "Don't tell my kid what to do," attitude. Our local school board just mandated masks and a huge majority of parents are flipping out over it. Some of the posts I've seen border on being threatening. Over a mask!

I've come to realize we're never going to stop a virus from spreading here because we can't keep people from spreading it. Virtually everywhere you look -- super-spreading is taking place. I guess we're just going to have to get our vaccines and hope for the best.

Not only no way to make everyone happy, no way to keep everyone safe.
School starting brings a mixed bag of worry here. I know my DD and SIL who are teachers are super stressed. Last year was difficult, but this year seems to be moving away from staying safe and just taking your chances with your children. My teacher children have young children who don't qualify for the vaccine.
Then there's my oldest daughter who has denied and fought common sense all the way, she has 2 young teenagers. My teenage grandson has asthma and so my daughter refuses to let him wear a mask and attend school. Mask requirements have been implemented within their school district within past couple days. I haven't talked with her since, because I don't want to hear the onslaught of They are taking away my freedom to choose for myself and my children..... I so worry about my GS, esp at this age, missing another round of in school instruction and especially socialization at his age. Not to mention, how severe Covid may be if he contacts with an asthma issue already. With all the mask options out there, if only she would allow me, I'd buy a hundred to find one that both protects him and doesn't impede his breathing. She won't even discuss with me.

If they win their case (JMOO), I think the ruling will apply to other communities as well. And, while a governor has some authority to make rules, I don't think a rule disallowing local officials to implement health policies that are in the best interests of their constituents would stand up to constitutional scrutiny.

Based on parental reactions for and against mask/vax mandates in Michigan schools, things are going to get ugly when the school year commences. Local school board meetings have been quite animated with parents protesting on one side or the other of mask/vax mandates. I've posted several recent media reports on the Michigan Covid forum.
