Random update on how things are in GA. My friend kept her kids home last year but put them back in public school this year. The kids got sick the first week of school. And the pharmacies everywhere are sold out of rapid covid tests. She took them to the ped and they had a sign on the door saying they were out of covid tests.

The local mom's groups are nuts. I am routinely seeing women tell other women to send their kids to school after a known covid exposure if they aren't symptomatic yet. These kids are getting alerts almost daily telling them they've been exposed. Many of them multiple exposures in a day. And the hospitals are already back to being overwhelmed. And school has only just started! I'm really worried about how stupidly bad this is going to get.

I called our pharmacist today at Walgreens, and we went over my DH's medical condition and she said tanhat he is eligible for the third shot now, he doesn't need to take in any documentation, just make an appointment and when we get there, he needs to fill out a form and check the box that applies to his situation in terms of how he is eligible. There will be a list of eligible conditions on the form, per what we are seeing from the CDC.

I also asked her about the flu shot this fall, and how far apart the flu shot should be from the booster shot. She said that the CDC has advised pharmacists to give the flu shot at the same time that people come in to get the booster shot. She suggested mid to late September, which is what we did last year.

Since it takes a few weeks to be effective, I am hoping my DH will agree to get the booster shot as soon as possible. He said he needs to think about it. So I am hoping he will come to terms with it by next week.

I won't be eligible until October for the booster shot.

The pharmacist said its going to be crazy, trying to check dates of 2nd shot and determine eligibility of 8 months before third shot, and for people with no vaccine cards, lost them, etc. She did say that the pharmacy does have access to the state vaccine registry to check.

That's going to be a busy place come September 20th, if not before.

Neil Young Withdraws from Farm Aid 2021, Citing “The Covid Pandemic Surging”

"My soul tells me it would be wrong to risk having anyone die because they wanted to hear music and be with friends"

Less than a month after Farm Aid 2021 was announced, one of the founders of the fundraiser, Neil Young, has withdrawn from the concert over concerns about COVID-19. In a statement on the Neil Young Archives, the venerable songwriter wrote, “My soul tells me it would be wrong.”

Young is a Farm Aid board member alongside Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews, all of whom are expected to perform. “While I respect Willie, John and Dave’s decisions to stick with it and play, I am not of the same mind,” Young wrote. “It is a tough call.”

As he explained his thinking, “I find myself wondering whether Farmaid will be safe for everyone with the Covid pandemic surging. I worry about that. I don’t want to let anybody down, but still can’t shake the feeling that it might not be safe for everyone. I worry about audiences coming together in these times. The show is sold out.”

Yeah, me too. :/ The relief was short lived. I did not feel safe or ok till after I had my baby because I was so high risk while pregnant. Now we have this stupid variant and I'm still not in great shape and recovering from preeclampsia still. My BP is just bad and I was not on BP meds before pregnancy.

Is Delta still a disease that's going after the vascular system? I'm stressed because I just can't isolate like we did last year. I have had to take the baby to the doctor multiple times including today. And she will have physical therapy weekly for a while. I keep trying to tell myself that I'm just seeing the PT once a week and they are seeing lots of patients all day and most of them are doing ok.

Just sending air hugs. My kiddo also has PT weekly, along with speech and OT. The practice we go to has been great with mitigation throughout the pandemic. We were also able to utilize teletherapy back when everything started last year, so that could be an option too.

Yea, it's highly unlikely that with record hospitalization numbers, their deaths plummeted.
I thought that treatment for Covid patients have improved so that more people survive. Maybe I'm wrong.

AFAIK, a shot is not ‘useless’ when given incorrectly. It still gets absorbed into your body but it is better if they put it into the deltoid muscle.

Many drugs, for example can be given IV, orally or IM but they all work.
Perhaps I should have used the word 'ineffective' to describe the shots given incorrectly, but I do think the vaccine needs to be deposited into the muscle to be truly effective.

Here's another example.

But Dr. Tom Pitts, a neurologist who practices in New York City, says as he’s watched the images, he has noticed too many instances in which the skin is being pinched as the needle is inserted.

That could lead, he says, to the vaccine being injected into the subcutaneous fat, the fat layer under the skin, instead of into the muscle where it needs to go.

If that happens, Pitts says the vaccine will not be effective.

“The hard part was getting the vaccine, the hard part shouldn’t be injecting it into the muscle,” Dr. Pitts said.

As low as the death rate is supposedly I'm blown away with how many people are losing multiple family members who aren't even blood related. The chances of a married couple in their 40's or so both dying of the flu are just not even plausible. I remember reading about this happening in India and it was blamed on the poor medical care.

I guess we are now reaching that state on some level in places stretched way too thin. But I wonder how much it's just this variant. But even if the CFR is say 3% in people in their 40's..BOTH parents? Their poor children. I have honestly never once worried that my husband was really at risk till the past couple of weeks after seeing how many younger people his age are dying.

There are a lot of pregnant women in some online groups starting to panic and decide now is the time to hurry up and get vaccinated.

We had a local outbreak recently and ten people tested positive for Delta, all under 19 yrs, all unvaccinated. Four are still in hospital.

We'll be hearing more of these stories as Delta gets a firm grip on the unvaccinated population.

I'm glad to hear that the Toronto School Board is putting some protocol in place with the goal of reducing the spread. They will be a leader for other school districts to follow.

Somehow I doubt they came up with a much better treatment in the last week.

Look at the graph on this page for the daily deaths in FL. Someone is fudging those numbers. They have suddenly dropped off to almost nothing.

Florida COVID: 3,002,763 Cases and 41,130 Deaths - Worldometer

OK, so this was driving me crazy too.

The link below might be helpful. Although it's a bit confusing as well. I looked at the graph for Deaths, and if you hover the arrow over it, the stats for each specific day appear. FL seems to have some days with very low # of deaths, some days even show zero. Other days have large totals, 357 on 8/16 is the highest.

But the bottom line is that they appear to be at roughly 175 Deaths/day right now. 100% certainty it's going to hit 200/day before Labor Day.

They still appear to be moving up on New Cases, so I think it's likely they'll get to 250 Deaths/day, and the things they're doing now, or not doing, may determine if it gets to 300/day. I honestly don't know if there's a ceiling. 185/day is their highest 7-day average, back on 8/5/20 and again on 1/28/21. They're going to blow through that in the next week.

Curious about how much capacity the hospitals across the state have remaining, and even more specifically, the locations of those close to filling up.

It is unfortunate that we are in this position due to Delta and the large numbers of unvaccinated. I don't know if Delta attacks the vascular system: there is so much varying information, it is hard to keep track of it all. We still have to carry on with our lives (doctor appts and such)--- I don't get real anxious when I go to the doctor cause everyone is masked up and there are not a lot of patients in the waiting room. I do think we are somewhat protected with the vaccine but like you and so many others, before Delta we felt pretty good about protection with the vaccine. I even took my mask off in May and June when I went to the market. No longer. I have a hard time convincing my husband to wear a mask: he just does not get the seriousness of Delta, believing the vaccine makes him superman. (besides he watches Fox news-ugh)
Take care and be well--- you are blessed with a new lovely baby----

Sounds like a glitch in the number counting. I see that a lot here in California. JMO.

I hope Willie reconsiders. I don’t want him risking himself either.

Wow! I actually just saw this being done in footage on the news in a story about the booster shots. I thought it looked weird, and I've never had it done that way! So I wonder how common it is, and how big a factor in sickness among the "vaccinated".

Anyone here getting the Booster soon as you can?

The first ones in September will go to nursing homes and frontline workers but probably soon to the general public.

I'm getting my 2nd shot in September so won't need a booster until April 2022

I definitely will get the booster.
I'm going to get the booster. I'm not eligible until the end of Dec though as I received my second dose at the end of April.

  • #678
Why? Are you at the 8 month mark?

In Sept I will be at the 6 month mark, but I keep hearing about more and more breakthrough infections--- so it makes me anxious. It does seem that the vaccine does protect most people from hospitalization and death (though not all), I do wonder if even a mild case can cause long haul syndrome----

My husband and I will get it. We won’t be eligible until January 26, just about the time Covid found us this past January. We had to wait 90 days post Covid and our monoclonal antibody infusions to get the vax, so we’re running later than many. We were expecting to get the vaccine on Feb. 15, but we got Covid instead.

I remember when you got Covid and you were posting some about it. So glad you are going strong! Thanks for your answer!
