In Sept I will be at the 6 month mark, but I keep hearing about more and more breakthrough infections--- so it makes me anxious. It does seem that the vaccine does protect most people from hospitalization and death (though not all), I do wonder if even a mild case can cause long haul syndrome----

Odds are so low you would get a breakthrough leading to long haul that I'm sure you will be fine. Just stay out of crowded spaces and wear a mask in stores and I bet you will do great.

I'm going to get the booster. I'm not eligible until the end of Dec though as I received my second dose at the end of April.

Anyone here getting the Booster soon as you can?

The first ones in September will go to nursing homes and frontline workers but probably soon to the general public.

I'm getting my 2nd shot in September so won't need a booster until April 2022

I’ll be 8 months out from dose two on September 18th, and I’m assuming CVS will do similar vaccine clinics in long term care settings where I work. I’ll be there front and center. My antibody level is 1/3 that of 2 of my teens who had covid 8 and 11 months ago.

Lab Corp does them here. It’s $10 if you need their doc to write the order, then they bill your insurance $42-ish which is typically covered at 100%. If you have a doc that will write the order for you, you can save the $10 fee. I signed up online after 11pm one night, had blood drawn the next day, and results before 8am the next morning.

Not with me it hasn't. I even continued to stay home when everyone was urging to meet up.

But just when I thought maybe I might "meet up" we got locked down.

Tonight I helplessly held the hand of and stroked the hair of a beautiful 14 year old girl as she exited this world. She was looking forward to starting high school and eventually becoming a veterinarian. It was so senseless! I truly believe she could have been saved if her parents had not forbidden us from intubating her. A free vaccination would have prevented it all! This little girl was robbed of her whole life and of fulfilling all of her dreams. She had been with us 9 days and was able to communicate well until taking a turn for the worse yesterday. About 2 hours later we were unable to save a 25 year old mother of 1 who was 15 weeks pregnant. She had refused the vaccines because of the lies about them causing infertility and harming her baby. Liars killed her, her baby and robbed a 2 year old little boy of his mommy and sibling. Not to mention robbing a husband of his wife and child. Those were 2 of 4 deaths we had tonight with the oldest being 45 years old! It was the 1st time since late March we have lost more than 3 covid patients in a single shift.

We checked at one of my workplaces today ... out of 17 people, there are only 2 we don't know about (boss hasn't asked yet - they work all over the place as they are tradies) and 3 that are quite young and he will follow up on, now that they are eligible.

Everyone else is either fully vaxxed, or halfway vaxxed with their next jab scheduled. And we haven't even had to encourage the vaccinations yet. Maybe we wont need to ... they all seem to be getting on with it.

AP Source: Biden to require vaccines for nursing home staff
The Biden administration will require that nursing home staff be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition for those facilities to continue receiving federal Medicare and Medicaid funding.

Biden will announce the move Wednesday afternoon in a White House address as the administration continues to look for ways to use mandates to encourage vaccine holdouts to get shots. A senior administration official confirmed the announcement on condition of anonymity to preview the news before Biden’s remarks.

I'm glad of this and worried at the same time. I just very recently put my mother in a nursing home and was notified yesterday that the home has two active cases, one in a resident and the other in a staff member. That means there will be a 10-day quarantine of the home--no visitors. I tried repeatedly yesterday to call my mom, but she has a special phone that helps her hear and it must have been adjusted wrong because she couldn't hear me. I called the nurses' station and asked them to fix it, please. No one did. I was warned that they were incredibly short staffed when she was admitted.

This nursing home is rated as one of the best in the state, yet when I talked to the nurse yesterday morning at 9am, she said my mom was "sleeping in." My mother never stays in bed past 6am. Never. They are so short-staffed, the residents are already suffering.

I don't want my mom to get the virus, and she has had both her Moderna shots.

People around here can be odd--I know some of them haven't been vaccinated. I fear more staff will quit now. Meanwhile, I can't talk to my mom who is probably very upset by now, I can't get in the door to fix her phone, and they won't bring her out to see me. She won't understand what's happening. I hate this virus.

The thing that we have found, and NZ will find also, is that a short sharp snap statewide lockdown is better for the economy.

Yes, many businesses close up for a week. Usually govt benefits kick in that supplement the businesses and the staff to an adequate degree. Then everything opens up again, once the danger is over.

Which is preferable to what NSW is going through now. No short sharp statewide lockdown (only a "lockdown" in a specific small area), which resulted in too much exponential spread, and so now their lockdown has had to swing into full lockdown and will go on and on and on - to try to minimise deaths.
That is what is bad for the economy. imo

That's a good point--where we messed up in the US was in implementing fake little "feel good" lockdowns that weren't lockdowns at all. People never stopped shopping at the supermarkets and home improvement centers--they were always packed with shoppers. Costco and Sams were considered "essential" and open.

And, the govt. assistance didn't go to those who needed it, so they risked opening back up. It was just ridiculous and still is.

I’m so sorry about your Mom. You may have to talk to someone higher up and point out that having a working phone could fall under the ADA and that someone needs to fix it for your Mom, since you can’t. Squeaky wheel, but nice.

If your Mom continues to “sleep in” get a list of the meds they’re giving her. I wanted to sleep all the time when I had Covid, so file that bit of info in your pocket. Sorry.

Send cards, flowers, balloons to your Mom…something everyday…anything to help her know your thinking of her. Maybe include pictures of yourself and even pictures of her when she was young. The staff seems to like knowing who the patient was before old age took over. If she uses an iPad, you can even send cards that way. I use Jacquie Lawson.

But the phone and keeping your Mom well is the priority now. You need to be able to talk to her, even if you still send cards, etc. Hang in there and keep us posted.

AstraZeneca vaccine changes name to Vaxzevria

Australia's regulatory authority has approved a name change for the COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca, which will now be known as Vaxzevria.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) today approved the name change in an effort to bring the naming conventions of the vaccine in line with the European Union and Canada.

A change of name is the only change made to the vaccine.
