There is plenty of vaccine available in the area where I live, so they are making it available to frontline healthcare workers as well as those who are immune compromised.

I have been taking care of patients with COVID every single day for the past several weeks.
Good.
Did you have a reaction to the third shot?

So I got my 3rd COVID vaccine this morning. As a front line healthcare worker I became eligible this week for my 3rd shot, and I took the first availability I could find, after searching available appointments within a 20 mile radius.

Has anyone here had their 3rd shot yet?
I had my third Pfizer on Tuesday of this week. Recommended by my doctor due to AI issues.

I "think" I'm about to cut mine. I do cut mine all the time though and quite often get asked what salon I go to and they're amazed that it's the Salon of Moi. LOL

But I had been thinking of going back to salons and maybe get something like a spiral wave so I've been letting my hair get longer in anticipation of something new.
I stopped going to salons ages ago after a couple of horrible results.

Yesterday I wondered if there was such a thing as a robot hair cutting machine and came across this very clever young guy.

I am going to cut my own hair again. I went to the salon during low covid period a couple of months back, and nobody wore masks. That was after cdc said vaccinated people didn't need to wear masks.
Our covid numbers have dramatically increased since then. So I am not going to salons until numbers improve.

I don’t disagree, however I’m more of a realist. The chances anyone is going to sway these rather stubborn, determined folks to mask up is just… slim. So I’m of the mindset that I will do what I can, when I can, that is under my own control. I can control what kind of situations myself/my family are in and the type of masks we wear. So I control what I can, when I can. If others prefer to protest and complain that there’s no mask mandate and wear a lesser quality mask in the meantime, that’s certainly an option as well.

Or perhaps not more of a realist? Once our children are at school, there goes our best efforts - unless the school fully (and legally) can support protecting all attending children and can follow up to make sure they keep their masks on in appropriate situations.

School is the one place that we can be sure that our children will be mingling with every virus and sniffle that abounds.

The parents who don't want their children to mask up at school should seek other educational arrangements for their children. (imo) From what I understand, they are in a loud and noisy minority. I read an article yesterday that said 36% of US parents don't want their children to mask up. And 63% do want children to mask up at school.

Most Parents Don’t Want Their Schools to Require COVID-19 Vaccination, But Most Favor Requiring Masks for Unvaccinated Children and Staff

I’m never going back to my former hairdresser. She moved with the manicurist from a spacious salon where we wore masks to a tiny place in June…no masks and we found out later that the manicurist isn’t vaccinated. I kind of doubt now that our hairdresser is either. So I canceled our appointments for July and asked a licensed, vaxxed and masked friend came to our place and cut our hair. But now things are so bad I’m just going to let it grow again and whack at our hair myself as I did from March 2020 to March 2021. It’s not worth the risk for us just for a professional cut.

Respectfully disagree that I’m not being realistic. I do not have the political power to force the governor to allow mask mandates. I just don’t. And I’m ok with that. I don’t lose sleep over it. I have a demanding career in health care and am a single parent to four teens. I don’t have the time or interest in trying to change our governor’s mind.

So what do I do? I make choices that ARE within my realm of control. I accept that I cannot force others to wear masks. I was vaccinated within 10 days of EUA approval of the vaccine, at the literal first available opportunity. I’ve used N95’s while interacting in public since June 2020, as have my teens. Etc etc etc. I’ve made choices that are within my realm of control. If that’s not being realistic, I’m not sure what is. Perhaps I’ve got the wrong idea of realistic in mind. Beating my head against a brick wall has never held appeal to me. So I don’t. YMMV.

Can't make this stuff up

Chicago Judge Strips Mother Of Parental Rights For Being Unvaccinated
chicago-judge-strips-mother-of-parental-rights-for-being-unvaccinated.jpg

A few weeks ago, we shared the story of a 21-year-old man from Ohio who, after being arrested for fentanyl possession, was legally required by the judge overseeing his case to get vaccinated as a condition of his probation.

Now, in a terrifying glimpse of what might be in store for parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids, a judge in Cook County Illinois (which includes Chicago) has taken away the parental rights of a woman due to her refusal to get vaccinated.

In what all parties agree is a very unusual and perhaps unprecedented step, a Cook County Judge has stripped Rebecca Firlit of custody due to her refusal to get vaccinated.

“I miss my son more than anything. It’s been very difficult. I haven’t seen him since Aug. 10,” Firlit told a local Fox affiliate station in an interview.

That’s the day Firlit appeared in court via Zoom, accompanied by her ex-husband, for a child support hearing involving her 11-year-old son. The two have been divorced for seven years and share custody and parenting time.

Out of the blue, Judge James Shapiro asked her whether she had been vaccinated. Firlit told Shapiro she didn’t get vaccinated because she has had bad reactions to vaccines in the past.

Shapiro then ordered that Firlit be prevented from spending parenting time with her son until she gets vaccinated. Firlit has been able to talk to her son through video calls, but has been unable to see him in person.

Firlit is now appealing the court order, saying the judge has no authority to take away her parenting rights over her vaccination status.

“It had nothing to do with what we were talking about. He was placing his views on me. And taking my son away from me,” Firlit said.

Her attorney, Annette Fernholz, claimed the judge has overstepped his authority.

“You have to understand the father did not even bring this issue before the court. So it’s the judge on his own and making this decision that you can’t see your child until you’re vaccinated,” Fernholz added.

Why do we keep hearing this? Rhetorical question

Anti-’Covid tyranny’ campaigner in hospital with virus

In an update on his condition on Saturday, Jessica told the New York Times that her husband would be transferred to hospice at the hospital, and the family will share their final goodbyes.

Caleb Wallace, an anti-Covid restrictions campaigner, is now in hospital with the virus

The Huff Post reported that in July 2020, Wallace organized "The Freedom Rally" protests opposing the "government being in control of our lives."

He is also touted as a founder of San Angelo Freedom Defenders and orchestrated a rally "to end COVID tyranny," according to San Angelo LIVE! and the Standard-Times.

In addition, as the Standard-Times reported, Wallace wrote a letter to the San Angelo Independent School District asking them to overturn their COVID-related guidelines.
He died today, after being hospitalized for a month. The wife is asking for donations.

Caleb Wallace, San Angelo 'Freedom Rally' organizer, dies of COVID

At about 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, Jessica said her husband died following a weeks-long battle with the coronavirus.

"Caleb has peacefully passed on. He will forever live in our hearts and minds," she said on the family's GoFundme campaign.
...
Original story:
...
"Show me the science that masks work," Caleb wrote on the City of San Angelo's official Facebook in December 2020. "Show me the evidence that school closures work. Show me the evidence that lock-downs work."
...
On July 26, Jessica said her husband began experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus: shortness of breath, high fever, and a dry cough. Those symptoms became worse the following day.
...
Caleb instead began taking tablets of ivermectin (an anti-parasitic medicine the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has since urged people not to take for COVID-19), high doses of Vitamin C, zinc aspirin, and an inhaler. By July 30, however, Caleb was taken by a relative to the emergency room at Shannon Medical Center.
...
"He couldn't breathe on his own," Jessica said. "The first week he was able to be on oxygen. By the morning of (Aug. 8), he had to be ventilated."
...
Caleb's health had deteriorated quickly after his lungs became "stiff" with fibrosis, Jessica said in a public Facebook post dated Wednesday, Aug. 25.
"He’s not doing good," Jessica said. "It’s not looking in our favor."

Physicians at Shannon hospital called Jessica and told her they’ve "run out of options" for Caleb and asked if she would consent to a do-not-resuscitate order, her post stated.

Good.
Did you have a reaction to the third shot?
I had the shot about 12 hours ago, and I just started feeling fatigued and have a slight headache.

I burned a bridge with one hairdresser when I went there for a perm and cut and she was working on an unmasked lady with the blow dryer. I had visions of covid flying at high speed with those dryers. I told her I had been led to believe they were requiring masks. She said the woman had just been vaccinated. I walked out.

I have a friend from high school who knows how I feel about this and does hair. It's a longer drive, but worth it.

Oregon
Dozens infected, 5 killed in COVID outbreak started by unvaccinated worker at assisted living facility
More at link
A COVID-19 outbreak at an Oregon assisted living facility that has infected 64 people and killed five began with an unvaccinated worker, public health officials said. The outbreak at Gateway Living in Springfield began July 5, The Register-Guard reported. The facility has 105 employees and 101 residents; only 63% of the staff and 82% of the residents are completely vaccinated.

Lane County Public Health spokesman Jason Davis said the outbreak began with an unvaccinated employee who worked while infectious.

About 60% of the cases from the Gateway Living outbreak are so-called breakthrough cases, among people who have already been vaccinated. It’s not yet clear how many of the cases were among residents, employees or family members and others outside of the facility. Seven of the people infected are hospitalized.

I think you're correct. There is no chance of swaying certain people to put masks on their kids for school at this point, and the protesting and complaining about that is only steeling their resolve. Imo, pro-mask people should do what they believe will best protect their concerns -- whether that's their kids wearing masks in school; home-schooling; private schooling at schools that require masks; segregating school-age children from vulnerable adults in their own families...whatever.

Maybe certain people who refuse to mask their kids should be the ones keeping those kids at home.
