"One of the coach drivers who was pictured without a protective suit or mask as he transported the Britons flown home from China has revealed that he wasn’t worried and was simply ‘doing his duty’.

Peter Badger, 54, said he did not tell his family before accepting the job of driving them to the Wirral on Friday because he and the other four drivers had been told the risk was ‘very, very low’.

And although their coach firm said the drivers had been advised to ‘self-isolate’ at home for two weeks as a precaution, they were seen mingling with the public in a hotel bar the next day."

'I wasn't worried!' says evacuee driver who was pictured without a protective suit or mask | Daily Mail Online

Gah. That's so enraging! You want to know the lowest risk involved? Not transporting anyone in a cab with you who has been in China. It's low risk but he was supposed to self isolate anyway for 2 weeks and decided he didn't need to bother? I can't stand people who are this selfish. But really there should be less idiots in charge managing stuff like this. How hard would it have been to take safer precautions? No wonder there are so many mixed messages over this.

My biggest hope for today is that someone that is currently asymptomatic doesn’t unknowingly attends the Super Bowl !

Tracing contacts and origins would be literally impossible.

edited to add “DOESN’T” as it changes the entire context !!!
Or rides the subway in NY, or goes through a busy airport. Not to be alarmist, but there's a reason public health officials are trying to get control of this.

Yeah, I'm not at all comfortable with trusting potential victims to "self-isolate". I doubt they're all being given adequate information or are hearing enough emphasis on the "isolation" part.

The people in the U.K who are quarantined are demanding to know from Drs why they must stay quarantined when they have no symptoms of infection.

3. How much and how long does the high temperature have a killing effect on the virus? High-temperature environment disinfection? Does turning on air conditioning and heating work?

The virus is sensitive to heat and can effectively inactivate the virus when it reaches a temperature of 56 ° C for 30 minutes. However, it is impossible to achieve the effect of inactivating the virus by raising the ambient temperature by heating with an air conditioner, and the effect of the virus cannot be achieved by heating the temperature.

Evans says he's been told that test results from nasal and bowel swabs taken when the evacuees arrived in California should be known Sunday or Monday, but blood tests may take longer.

It's very troubling that testing for this virus is so...insufficient. I hope some scientists somewhere develop a better test that works on people who aren't yet symptomatic and can be administered out in the field.

Sorry, catching up on a couple of home remodeling projects. Cleaning out attic, closets, basement crawl space. Still a lot to do.

Coronavirus lurking in feces may be a hidden source of spread | The Japan Times
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – While doctors have focused on respiratory samples from pneumonia cases to identify coronavirus patients, they might have ignored a less apparent source of the spread: diarrhea.

The novel coronavirus was detected in the loose stool of the first U.S. case — a finding that hasn’t featured among case reports from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak. However, that doesn’t surprise scientists who have studied coronaviruses, nor doctors familiar with the bug that caused SARS.

Diarrhea occurred in about 10 to 20 percent of patients afflicted with severe acute respiratory syndrome about 17 years ago and was the source of an explosive SARS outbreak in the Amoy Gardens residential complex in Hong Kong.

SARS and Wuhan viruses bind to the same distinctly shaped protein receptors in the body that are expressed in the lungs and intestines, making these organs the primary targets for both viruses, said Fang Li, an associate professor of veterinary and biomedical sciences at the University of Minnesota.''

“It’s not only excreted in your respiratory secretions, it’s also secreted in your stool.”

Toronto business owner offers good deal for good deed after coronavirus fear grows
''Sue, of Chinese descent, was born and raised in Toronto, so he was perplexed when the customer at The Flower Centre began to ask non-floral-related questions.

“She asked me if I had been to Wuhan. Of course, I said no. And then she asked me, ‘has any of my family been there? Has anyone travelled there and come back recently?’ And I said no, we’re all here in Toronto.''

''When the Global News story of Sue’s interaction with his customer was shared to Facebook groups in the city’s Beaches area, David Brown, owner of “Fearless Meats” on Kingston Road, just a few blocks from Sue’s shop, saw the post and responded with a “fearless” idea.

“Anybody that goes into Andy’s store Friday, Saturday or Sunday this week and buys — even if it’s just a petunia — they can come into our restaurant and exchange it for one of our 6 oz. certified Angus beef burgers,” said Brown.

Almost 2,000 Facebook likes later, Sue has had his busiest flower-selling weekend, surpassing Valentine’s Day.''

I'd consider that pretty devastating. :/ That would be a life long trauma for me. I feel deeply sorry for what these people are experiencing.

People at my office have been passing around the same crud for weeks, coughing and sneezing all over the place, coming to work with diarrhea, all using the same copiers and break room. If Coronavirus makes it here our whole school will probably end up with it.

Some interesting facts on the Qantas flight returning Australians from China.

Qantas staff assigned to the flight volunteered for the role, with passengers required to go through health checks before boarding.
The entire upper deck of the 747 will be reserved for the Qantas crew, with exposure between staff and passengers to be limited.
Meals and drinks will be placed on seats before the flight departed to avoid direct contact between crew and passengers, with all those on the flight to wear surgical masks that will be changed hourly.
"The aircraft has [20] medical grade filters on board which remove 99 per cent of all particles on the aircraft including viruses - a lot safer than public transport," he said.
