So as far as purchasing my mom's supplies, today at Shoppers Drug,
I was able buy my glove supply.
But as far as masks go, the Shoppers associate, in the medical aids department, told me there are no masks at all
and they are unaware of when the inventory will be replenished.

The alcohol based hand sanitizer was gone, all but 3 minis remained.
And all the travel size were gone.

Giant Tiger still had some Purell.
And Canadian Tire, suppy in the highly trafficked isle was gone, but there was still a full display in the other section of the store.

Just real happy I got the gloves, cause I need them on a day to day basis.

I would normally buy stuff like hand sanitizer from Tesco home delivery in the UK...I can only see two own-make ones listed on the website now and both are listed as out of stock!

ETA I can't see any in the Sainsbury's store for home delivery either!

It seems both the US and WHO claim China is being transparent. In yesterday’s White House briefing, it is mentioned that (paraphrasing here moo) that due to various factors such as “symptomatic/asymptomatic”, etc., etc., it is challenging to get real numbers. One would have to review the video or refer to the transcript to hear exactly what the US is saying about China’s level of transparency. WHO is also saying they are being transparent imo.

I’m glad you brought up this whole “air vent” business. I saw a video talking about a building where several people died during SARS and I wanted to see/confirm if it was via the air vents. Also, this “aerosol plume of virus-laden diarrhea” also has me wondering about this as well, the “airborne”, as well as in depth “fecal” aspects, moo. Again, there has been rapid transmission (obviously). Jmo

Any more sources on why goggles need to be worn? Making a note. I’m just curious because I have not heard goggles mentioned in any PC’s that I’ve seen, nor heard any references to “eyes”, that I recall anyway, and transmission aspects as we know them are very important to keep clear. Unfortunately I’m going to have to google “aerosol plumes of virus-laden diarrhea” here shortly because I’m struggling with clarity on this subject.

Never got to the cleaning part, as most of the article was about these two vacationers grousing about their vacation being delayed.
However, if true that the workers are not using safety measures then that is beyond stupid and shame on the management for allowing this.

True. I think he’s frustrated by the canned response and lack of assistance as they’re stranded. And he’s right. Those cruise lines have a ton of money. They can afford to put people up who were schedule to cruise.

FWIW, Royal Caribbean is reimbursing hotel expenses for those waiting to board Anthem. People can also just not show up and they will get a full refund for the trip. Those that choose to go on the shortened cruise (they are now looking at leaving Monday for Bermuda) will be getting a big refund and future cruise credits.

I’m not up to the very second on the Anthem news, but AFAIK, no one ever tested positive for the virus (yet), and the people on board of question hadn’t been in China for > 14 days when they boarded.

Does this mean people sneeze/cough/ and the aerosol goes in their eyes and they get it, or transmission occurs from tears, rubbing their eye then touching someone, or both? Or neither? What does this mean exactly?

Can you get it from touching your eye via surface contamination? Or maybe if you have direct droplets on your finger?

This is a far more serious virus than AIDS, as there doesn't have to be any exchange of actual body fluids for a person to be infected. It seems to be airborne, like measles and chickenpox. And smallpox. I read that the virus was much larger than the chickenpox virus, so the droplets don't spread as far. But, who really knows?

Are the people infected also breaking out with a rash?

This is obviously highly highly contagious. In how many ways, I’m not sure and “transmissibility” factors are not completely known at this point. We know about “droplets” obviously, and now hearing references to fecal matter, eyes...

Surface contamination reports vary on how long the virus lives (I’ve seen everything from 24 hours to 5 Days)...

BBM, that's one reason why I don't think the official timeline or official numbers who've gone for hospital testing can be very far off.

Surely, if the disease didn't travel outside of China during December it can only have been hopping to maybe 100 to 300 people before New Year? Maybe it had tried to get into humans before but hadn't made the necessary mutations for human-to-human transmission and went under the radar until then? But then it succeeded in the human-to-human transmission (obviously not on purpose, but it happened) and I think they said once it started being exported by Wuhan/Hubei that there might then have been about 1500 to 4500 actual cases despite them not all being tested and confirmed. The medical authorities there did do contact tracing to trace where each confirmed case acquired the virus, and presumably also did contact tracing to track the contacts of confirmed cases....but that wasn't enough as it was only the more serious cases presenting to hospitals. Meanwhile the virus is spreading to another hundred, another thousand a week, a day, whatever and a few per hundred turn up at hospital....then the numbers going to hospital rise because the news gets out and the hospitals get overwhelmed.

And those few flights that brought people with the virus to countries outside China...while that's going on far more people in China can afford/need to travel within China than to foreign countries, so they're taking it around and cases start showing up more and more outside Wuhan, but when they did the tracing to see where those people acquired the virus the vast majority were from Wuhan/Hubei.

And the same thing that enabled under-the-radar spread of the coronavirus in Wuhan for a month or so, could be happening now anywhere in the world, and it's not until a hospital and health authority notice an odd cluster of severe flu/pneumonia cases and test them for this coronavirus that we'd be aware of it...and by that time there could be a hundred to five hundred cases out there silently spreading what they think is a cold or flu.
