U.S. citizen Rebecca Frasure has been in the isolation ward of a Tokyo hospital since Friday. She's now among the 135 people aboard the Diamond Princess who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Frasure, who lives with her husband in Forest Grove, Oregon, said she feels "fine" apart from a slightly stuffy nose. She said the most severe symptoms she experienced from the virus were a mild fever and cough, both of which have since resolved.

"It doesn't even feel like a cold. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't have known that there was anything wrong with me if they hadn't tested me."

Shocked to wake up to the news that 65 new cases have been reported on the cruise ship
https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost...confirmed-on-cruise-ship-docked-in-japan/amp/

An additional 65 coronavirus cases have been confirmed aboard the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Yokohama, Japan, bringing the total to 135 – nearly doubling the previous total

Im a little shocked as well. The dramatic increase in numbers seems like something is being spread around and the question is how since everyone is supposed to be in their rooms.

Someone brought up a few days ago that the crew going around to each door to deliver food is a bad idea because that means a crew person is outside the door of everyone's room, picking up and dropping off and touching trays of food. So maybe that could be the source of spreading new cases around even if the crew member does not have symptoms or maybe does not even have the virus.

Wonder if that is possible ? Wonder if a person could be a carrier and transmitter of the disease without even catching it themselves? Theoretically I think its possible since we have been told the virus can live on surfaces for days so if a crew member touches a leftover infected tray of food (after it is eaten by passengers), then the crew member wipes their hand on their clothes, then maybe they could be transmitting it unkowingly.

So scary.
At a minimum, the infected people need to not have the same crew servicing their rooms and then servicing non-infected rooms. Seems that would be a guaranteed way to cross contaminate the healthy passengers.

I also thought about the air vents again and drafts under the door. Seems like this virus is so contagious that it sneaks its way around every possible way it can.

Holy Crap! 130 NOW!?!?!

Coronavirus infects 66 more passengers on Diamond Princess, bringing total to 130

I'm worried about the British couple, David and Sally Abel.

Whoa.
That's an astronomical increase.
So many must be infected, and will continue to test positive or develop symptoms.
When was the quarantine supposed to end?, the 19th?

I'm concerned about the Abels as well.
It has been a couple days since their last video?
Have they posted anything new, of late?

ETA: 3 minutes of China is a rude awakening.

Wow.
“60 new cases of coronavirus on cruise ship near Tokyo, raising ship's total to 130”

Twitter

@BNOdesk

This is actually "good" news. The virus did not infect that many people, 130 cases out of 3500 is less than 5% infection rate. So, maybe the ones infected were in close proximity to the initial case.

And perhaps the others have lower immunity, elderly or others.

I am relived that the number is relatively low.

So if you are suspected of having this virus why are some people not willing to go with the police/medical people?

When I watch these videos it comes across as totally barbaric BUT if people won’t help themselves here then only brute force is going to be used here. It does need to he contained so I’m torn watching this videos as it’s horrible to watch but what else can they do?

None of the stewards on the cruise ships are servicing the cabins. I read that it was up to those in each cabin to clean and disinfect. There are no laundry services (having your own laundry done) on the cruise either. People are hand washing their clothes.

Someone upthread said that the contamination could be in the food that is being delivered. That's a real eye opener!

Omg. This is video is disturbing. You can see the people being forcibly quarantined. At 1:03-1:19 they haul away a woman and stick her in what appears to be a big white box in the back of a truck. You can hear her terrified screams from the box.

I imagine that it is disturbing, but forcible quarantines could well be needed to control the spread of the virus. Asian culture may well help in controlling the spread.

Asians value social cohesion and respect authority. That means that most people will do what they are told to in regards to in regards to preventive measures. Then factor in that China can focus a lot of expertise and technology in the infected areas.

Contrast that to say Africa which lacks the technology and the west where nobody ever needs to do anything they don't want to do- and few want to comply with restrictions of any sort. Things can then go from bad to worse fast.

People are being "rounded up" under the guise "quarantine" even if they show no signs of the virus. There are various levels on being detained: having the virus, being around people who have the virus, and those "spreading rumors" about the virus. I have also read where people who had returned from Wuhan were being pulled from their home and put into quarantine (or having their front doors bolted shut or chained).

Crew of Diamond Princess appeals for help

Several members of the Diamond Princess crew have appealed for help from the Indian government, and alleged that they are at risk of infection by not being segregated.

So far at least 135 people (including five crew members) have tested positive for the Wuhan coronavirus on board the vessel, amid signs of a full blown outbreak -- one of the largest outside of mainland China.
The cruise ship passengers have been under strict quarantine for over a week now, confined to their cabins as medical personnel conduct tests on the 3,700 people on board.
“We are extremely scared at this point in time,” Binay Kumar Sarkar said in a video obtained by CNN. “Our request is to segregate the crew members from the infected.”

He said neither he nor his colleagues had been checked for the novel coronavirus.

When I was watching the video of the older couple on the ship, I was thinking what if any of the people preparing the food for the entire ship is a carrier?

There is evidently a two week period during which one can show no signs of the virus, yet still be actively passing the virus to others.

The newly infected then show no signs of the virus for two weeks, but are actively passing it to still others. The cycle continues.

But the round up of non-virus people is what is causing mass hysteria. People are afraid to go into "incubation camps" "intermittent camps" etc. because they believe they are more susceptible in getting the virus.

The most common unconfirmed rumor spreading across WeChat came from an audio clip of a woman claiming to be a nurse, reporting that 100,000 people had been infected with the coronavirus. The rumor went viral enough on WeChat that the Chinese government sent out a message saying it was false.

Ivy doesn’t trust the Chinese government’s official infection numbers — 4,631 confirmed cases. “I think of course it’s more than 4,631,” she said.

WeChat announced on Sunday it would shut down accounts spreading confusion about the coronavirus and hired a third-party agency to debunk rumors. Meanwhile, the nurse audio has been translated into English and now going viral on TikTok.

Im really starting to worry about the chinese residents who had their doors welded and bolted shut by authorities.

I worry they will run out of food and have no way to get more food. I cannot imagine the authorities are able to hand deliver food to each place they have boarded up.

Even for the people of Wuhan that were in lockdown and free to leave their homes to get supplies, they could be running out of money to be able to purchase more supplies.

Second Utah couple on quarantined cruise ship with 64 confirmed Coronavirus cases

This article actually tells a much different story. And is far scarier than the information provided in other articles. This is actually from people on board.

Out of 299 people who have actually been tested, 65 are confirmed cases. This is on a cruise ship of 3500? The folks in this article state that they have not been tested. Wow.

So, the news coverage is piece meal, and every MSM article needs to be critically reviewed to see what it really means. Now, this is a far different story.

Here is an interesting study done for a set of patients that were already in the hospital for the virus. 26% are in ICU and 4.3% died. Wow.

Question What are the clinical characteristics of hospitalized patients with 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV)–infected pneumonia (NCIP) in Wuhan, China?

Findings In this single-center case series involving 138 patients with NCIP, 26% of patients required admission to the intensive care unit and 4.3% died. Presumed human-to-human hospital-associated transmission of 2019-nCoV was suspected in 41% of patients.

Meaning In this case series in Wuhan, China, NCIP was frequently associated with presumed hospital-related transmission, 26% of patients required intensive care unit treatment, and mortality was 4.3%.

The Chinese have a very large and well organized army and paramilitary forces that can be mobilized for food deliveries.

They also know that the desperate people do desperate things like breaking quarantines. My bet is that the people will be fed. It may be monotonous- lots of easily cooked rice, a little "mystery meat" and what ever vegetable can be obtained cheaply by the ton.

Likewise, the food could well be delivered by gruff and uncommunicative soldiers and police with non "grandma's kitchen" and non Michelin star waiter like attitudes, but I think it will be delivered.

Mongolia suspends coal exports to China until March 2 amid coronavirus outbreak

Mongolia has suspended deliveries of coal across its southern border into China until March 2.

The move is designed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, with the commission also recommending the country suspend its Tsagaan Sar Lunar New Year celebrations later this month. Mongolia has not yet reported any cases of the coronavirus.

Nissan Motor Co will temporarily halt production at its plant in Kyushu, southwestern Japan, due to the coronavirus, as the outbreak starts to strain the global supply chain. In a statement, Nissan, the first automaker to halt production at a plant in Japan because of the outbreak, said that output would be affected on Friday and Feb. 17, due to supply shortages of parts from China.

Two production lines at the Kyushu plant would be halted on Feb. 14, adding that another line which mainly cars for export, would be stopped on Feb.17.

Nissan said it was preparing to restart production in China at the earliest from Feb. 17 at its plants in Huadu, Guangdong Province and Dalian, Liaoning Province, while restart dates for other plants had yet to be confirmed.

Nissan to halt production at Japan factory due to coronavirus

In South Korea, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors and Renault subsidiary RSM have all announced closures citing disruption to supply of parts from China.

__

PSA, which makes the Peugeot and Citroen brands, have said their factories will remain closed until Friday.

VW, BMW, Toyota and Honda have all said they now plan to restart Chinese production next week.

French car parts maker Valeo will keep its three sites in Wuhan shut until at least 13 February.

Fiat Chrysler also warned that it may have to suspend production in Europe as it struggles to get enough components from China.

Suzuki said it may start sourcing parts from outside China over concerns that the outbreak could disrupt production in India, its biggest market.

Hubei province, where the outbreak is thought to have started is in lock down. Honda, General Motors, and Dongfeng Motor all have factories in the region. One of Honda's two Chinese joint venture manufacturing plants is in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei.

Good point that it would be in the Government's best interest to make sure the locked up ones are being fed to prevent further chaos. I just hope they are keeping good track of who they have bolted doors shut on.

I recently locked myself out of my house, and it took me 2 hours to first figure out a way and then accomplish a break in with the least amount of damage. It was much harder than I thought. I could have broken a window and it would have been easier but I decided to work on the door that I knew only had 1 door knob button locked. It wasnt dead bolted and only had the door knob locked where it wouldnt turn. I couldnt use the credit card trick because the thing that slides into the door jam was facing the wrong way. So I finally was able to hammer drive 3 large screw drivers directly into that metal part that slides into the door jam. By sheer force and the screw drivers blew the metal part out the other side of the door jam, it finally allowed me to force the door open. The damage was pretty extensive but at least limited to door jam and door frame.

I think some of the elderly would not have the physical ability to break out if they were starving. A lot of them were on upper floors so breaking a window would not help them to get out. I guess they could try to scream for help but probably not a lot of people on the street since all are supposed to be on lockdown. And if they are way up in the apartments then their voice could not carry to street level.
