I was wondering if/when it would appear in India.
It could become rampant in India.

Let's hope that the protocals will work - patient quarantined and any contacts traced, educated, and monitored.

Mayor of Italian town refused to allow passengers to disembark.

6000 passengers. 1000 crew.

An initial plan to disembark 1,140 passengers who had been due to leave the ship on Thursday morning was put on hold after Civitavecchia mayor Ernesto Tedesco protested. “Are you mad? Who gave you the order to disembark? I’ll take you all to court,” he shouted at officials after racing to the port in his Fiat 500, according to the Repubblica newspaper.

6,000 passengers stuck on cruise ship in Italy over coronavirus fears

The Lazzaro Spallanzani national institute for infectious diseases is examining samples taken from a Chinese woman who fell ill with a fever as well as her travelling companion. It told Agence France-Presse that the definitive results could take up to 48 hours.

Samples were sent for testing after three doctors and a nurse boarded the Costa Crociere ship Costa Smeralda to tend to a woman with a fever.

The 54-year-old woman from Macau was put into isolation overnight in a hospital ward on the ship. Her husband, who did not have any symptoms, was also tested by doctors from Rome’s Spallanzani hospital and quarantined.

The couple flew into Milan from Hong Kong on Saturday before getting on the cruise.

The last cruise I was on, was filled with elderly.
There were a few passengers under quarantine, almost from the onset.
A week in, I had to see the ship's Doctor for an ear infection.
Fortunately I did not have a sore throat, so she gave me some super powerfull
crazy dream inducing antibiotics, and I was better in 48 hours.
There was hand sanitizer dispensers at every turn, but they only quarantined the individuals that were ill, spoke to a lady whose cabin mate was quarantined.

Wuhan coronavirus: China was warned in 2017 that a deadly virus could escape its level 4 biohazard lab

I find it more believable that the virus jumped from animal to human at the live-animal market, and the virus mutated to survive in human. While that is not common, it does happen and seems more likely than a lab escape, imo.

If they can pinpoint the "first victims," my bet is they are either people who sold animals at that live market or were customers.

Now this is beyond heart-breaking.
Disabled teenager in China dies at home alone after relatives quarantined
''A 17-year-old boy with cerebral palsy from a rural village in China’s Hubei province has died because his relatives were unable to care for him after being quarantined as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the state-run Beijing Youth Daily newspaper has reported.

Government officials from Hong’an County, 60 miles north of the provincial capital, Wuhan, where the outbreak first started, have launched an investigation into the death, said the report, which was picked up by other local media.

The boy, Yan Cheng, was found dead in his bed on Wednesday, six days after his father and his 11-year-old brother were taken from their home and quarantined at a facility 15 miles to the south. Both had developed a fever and were suspected of having the virus. Yan Cheng was left alone at home.

Unable to get out of quarantine, his father posted messages asking for help on the social media platform Weibo. Village officials reportedly visited Yan but fed him only twice over the six-day period.

A group called Rice and Millet, founded by a former state-media journalist and focused on children with cerebral palsy and other illnesses, posted photos of the boy in a wheelchair and in bed on Wechat.''

McDonald's restaurant on Moscow’ central Pushkin Square was due on Friday to sell the Big Mac for just three roubles ($0.0474) instead of its usual price of 135 roubles to mark its 30th anniversary, and expected to draw tens of thousands of people. But on Thursday it ditched the plan after Moscow authorities issued a city-wide warning against mass public events.

There have been no confirmed cases of the virus in Russia.

Is the city-wide ban against mass public events in Moscow because of the virus scare....or is that a usual ban in Moscow?

because of the virus scare

Russia's first McDonald's scraps 30th anniversary giveaway due to coronavirus fears

"Yesterday the Moscow government announced precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus," McDonald's said in a statement.

"(It) recommended refraining from holding public events in the near future in places where citizens gather en masse in order to minimize risks of infection."

There have been no confirmed cases of the virus in Russia.

There is nothing 'normal' about what is going on across the world. This is either mass hysteria or a major **** storm brewing. Russia alone will lose a fortune in closing its border.

Seems a bit off since there is literally no way anyone could get the virus in the city where the virus doesn't exist. But, not my decision, lol.

Then again, thousands of people are spared from eating McDonald's food, and that's a benefit to public health. (No offense to McD fans!)
