Public Health Emergency has been declared by WHO per feed due to countries that cannot deal with it.

This is NOT a no confidence vote for China.

WHO declare public health emergency

The WHO have declared a public health emergency because of the spread of the virus outside of China.

The organisation congratulated China, saying the declaration was not a vote of no confidence in the country, on the contrary, “the WHO continues to have confidence in China’s capacity to control the outbreak”.

Sixth case confirmed in France

A new case has been reported in France, taking their total up to six.

The latest victim is a doctor.

French citizens repatriated from Wuhan are being held in isolation near Marseille.

Air France has followed British Airways’s lead and suspending flights into and out of China until February 9. There will be special flights into and out of Shanghai and Beijing staffed with volunteer crew from tomorrow to bring back passengers and staff in China.

150 Britons being flown out of Wuhan tonight will be quarantined at Arrowe Park hospital accommodation in Wirral, Merseyside.

They will be staying in the accommodation block usually designated to NHS staff and are expected to remain there for 14 days.

Margaret Greenwood, the Labour MP for Wirral West, said she had been told by health secretary Matt Hancock that experts believed it was unlikely that those quarantined had the virus.

The government is working to get more than 600 Australian citizens out of the coronavirus epicentre in China, but it has now been revealed evacuees will have to pay for the trip.

The aim of the “humanitarian” mission is to get people home and into quarantine on Christmas Island and shield mainland Australians at the same time.

Evacuees have informed the publication they will have to pay $1000 and sign a waiver agreeing to be quarantined on Christmas Island for two weeks.

“Over the past few weeks we have witnessed the emergence of a previously unknown pathogen which has escalated into an unprecedented outbreak and which has been met by an unprecedented response,” WHO’s director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said.

The coronavirus outbreak is now a global health emergency, WHO says

The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of the new coronavirus rapidly spreading quickly across China a global health emergency — a rare designation the agency gives disease threats that pose an international risk.

Yes, they are. Again and again giving accolades to how different it is from SARS perhaps, that they shared the genome etc so quickly as never done before.

MOO it will allow governments to release funds for this cause. It's like home insurance, you aren't covered unless the government says it is an emergency to cover. In the US and other countries, this will perhaps trickle down so that US and other countries can now have the required WHO declaration to release emergency funds within their countries, if that makes sense. CDC may now change their stance so that the US can release the US emergency funds. Means much more as to how folks within governments can now fund/move about. MOO.

They are continuing to give accolades to China about how they are setting the standards for an outbreak..e.g. new hospitals and travel and city restrictions under public health emergency

WHOA! 150 media folks are in line on the call in line for this meeting. We'll see how many get asked. Translators needed!!!!! They are asking for english speaking only

Some of the people eligible to fly out on this flight were interviewed on sky news today and the big problem is that they have no means of transport whatsoever to get from where they are staying to the airport. And the U.K government offered no solution to this problem so I don't know what they are meant to do.

Infections from China's coronavirus have spread to more than 8100 people globally, surpassing the SARS epidemic's total.
A ninth person has been diagnosed with the deadly coronavirus in Australia, with four cases in NSW, three in Victoria and two in Queensland.
China coronavirus cases surpass SARS as ninth Aussie diagnosed

I also think this declaration is because countries that don't have good public health system need the international support - and this emergency status will help to provide support for them.
