Coronavirus Vaccine: Would you/did you get it?

We’ve been contemplating changing drs for a while now. Several reasons why. This dr and none of his staff have worn a mask during the entire pandemic. We aren’t going back to him.

I had to ASK my doctor to wash his hands in the exam room when I was so sick, and have had to ask him every time since, when I've gone back for more symptoms and worsening problems with RAD/ Asthma.

I wish I knew if this type of non-compliance was reportable to the Texas Medical Board. He already has 3 disciplinary actions on his record... This might get the jerk out of practice.

Always, always, if you think a doctor is " iffy" or has become " iffy" or is NEW TO YOU, take a spouse or other mature relative, or a mature friend into the exam room with you. This is to everyone, for every visit. My doctor is my doctor only because he doesn't belong to the monopoly of doctors who file share info on every patient. I believe it is a HIPAA violation, so I don't go to them. He's the only one in town not file sharing patient data.

I think we need to go on over to Fort Worth when the Pandemic is over. Handwashing is the most basic technique against viral and bacterial spread possible. It's like he has a handwashing phobia.

The times I've asked him during COVID are the ONLY times I've seen his hands hit soap or water in 10 years or so. He says he washes them at a central station and I know what area he means, but that is not good enough for me. He still has to open doors by hand on doorknob.

I live in the " Best U.S. Historical Small Town" by the USA Today survey, but they weren't counting medical care. If I'd known how bad it is, we wouldn't have looked at a single property in this county. Because the group of doctors own the hospital, it is also not likely to change.

I'd move in a minute, but DH likely never will... unless he's in the back of the ambulance trying to live to get to Fort Worth hospitals. We've promised each other never to go to the local facility that masquerades as a hospital. I worry every day, it's my biggest dread and fear to need emergency care there. ( I'd refuse any other type, of course).

I agree with this, if you're fully vaccinated and the person or people don't appear sick. I MIGHT, however, wear a disposable mask, whether they liked it or not. I only have responsibility for me now, not for others who are using their rights and responsibilities.

However, if anti-vaxxers are obnoxious and claiming to love me at the same time, one of those things is false.

I got mine as soon as I was eligible! I hope others will do the same to help us protect all the under 16 folks who are not able to get their shot (yet).

BBM - Truthfully, this is the major reason I got the vaccine. I've never had any type of shot or vaccine as an adult and despite having a Covid scare back in July (which turned out to be nothing), I was seriously thinking about waiting. But I have a precious 2 year old grandson (my only) who is severely disabled, considered "medically fragile" and, consequently, at high risk. I did it for him. My daughter and son-in-law asked me to . . . how could I say no? I would gladly give my life to make him well, what's a needle prick in the arm to keep him safe?

In our clinics and physician offices we have signs posted in each exam room: If your provider fails to perform hand hygiene please call (number of our patient advocate)

I've never had any type of shot or vaccine as an adult and despite having a Covid scare back in July (which turned out to be nothing), I was seriously thinking about waiting. ( likely Moderna) I can hardly wait as it will feel like such a relief. I know it won’t lead to life as normal for a while,,,but it feels so good to have some hope.

Re masks.... I think I might be afraid to stop wearing one for some time...but I don’t mind wearing one anyway.

Re Covid deniers...I think I can forgive anyone who doesn’t get vaccinated ( that’s a private medical matter) but I do know a few people who have been very vocal, very in people’s faces with tirades against Covid rules. They have reached out to others with such a shocking self centred attitude that now I’ve witnessed this ugly side of them, I just can’t imagine wanting to associate with them at all in the future.

I get my second Pfizer shot at noon today, and DH gets his second dose tomorrow. Hopefully, we won't have bad side effects. I'll let you know how it goes later today.

Thank you all for your candid conversations about your experiences. It's really helped me to get to this point, and I know will help me in the future as well.

I truly appreciate all the WS COVID Pro-Vaccine posters. It's not major surgery but the implications and outcome are so important to each of us.

Whoo hoo! Got the same Paramedic as injectiion #1 with the big leak of vaccine solution. We talked it over, and he decided to use a longer needle, give ONE AND A HALF DOSES, and use slower technique.
I asked if I could hold pressure on the injection site as soon as he withdrew the needle, which I did. He needed both hands, of course.

It worked perfectly, and I SHOULD be fully vaccinated now. I was asking to come back in in 3-4 weeks for a 3rd vaccine, but if I got half of the first dose, then I now will have a full set of vaccinations on board.
I do realize I could have ( should have, actually) more of a systemic reaction this time around. I will rejoice, not complain this time!

I'm back after another smooth foray through the well-organized operation at a Beaumont Healthcare facility. I felt the injection more than the first dose, but, so far, I feel fine. I'm glad to have the vaccine behind me. Nurse said, "No heavy lifting, no housecleaning", and I added, "No cooking." She said, "Most definitely get takeout tonight." No problem

Most times, if people really do understand how vaccines work, and how they have saved us from Polio, Smallpox, Influenza, and so many other killer infections, then what I'm sensing behind the militant words is fear.

People will use anger to cover up the base emotion of fear so many times, as you know. Our response is either to help a loved one deal with their fear, or walk away from all the negativity, which I gladly did by leaving social media ( again).

It's been six hours since my second Pfizer injection, and I feel fine. No side effects so far, and I keep moving my arm around to ward off soreness. The only time that I noticed soreness in my arm after the first shot was when I rolled onto my left arm during the night I hope to get a good night's rest because I was awake off & on last night - probably anxiety about the impending second Covid injection

My mother used to tell me to use my words carefully as I might have to eat them. ( An old saying, for sure).

Well, I guess I did get enough vaccine with injection #1.
I now have a fever, my arm feels like it's on fire, is hot to the touch ( hotter than the rest of my befevered skin), I'm dizzy, my eyes burn and my head hurts.
Also, I don't want to talk about food, think about food, drink anything or eat, either. This is like full blown influenza in every way. I'm also sneezing and coughing which is hard to believe with the amount of prescription meds I'm on to keep down airway reactivity.

I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow has in store ( sarcasm).
My vaccine was Moderna, but I had a dose and a half. I guess it's a good thing I used to catch everything our patients had when they weren't in isolation. I had forgotten how often I felt this badly or much worse during all these years of lovely retirement ( 2o years but I stay current with everything published).

I look at it this way: If I could put up with frequent respiratory illness and general malaise ( I love that word- " malaise"- it confers so much!) for pay, I can put up with it for the sake of my very life. Ya think?
