GUILTY COSTA RICA - Carla Stefaniak, 36, American tourist, San Antonio de Escazú, 27 Nov 2018

  • #341
When she said that the place was sketchy, did she mean that she was a bit creeped out by the power not working in the rain? Did it rain?

I can't figure out why, at an Airbnb, the security guard was closer than a bottle of water. Wasn't the security guard outside tending cars throughout the night? Wasn't she inside the Airbnb? Why did she think it was better to go outside?

Is this Airbnb one building? Is this the building? Can anyone help me understand address in Costa Rica?

Which is the property in question?

Where was she with her sister-in-law before they returned the rental vehicle?

I would die to know if the power went off in the general area or just at her place, her floor or her room. :/ I mean its a Rain Forrest, storms ALL THE TIME in CR, rains once a day usually. Did the storm cause the outage or did someone throw a breaker? RIP beautiful girl, hope your modeling Fabulous clothes somewhere less burdened than here.
I’m now in Nova Scotia on the Atlantic Ocean with a mountain behind me. During heavy rains, my power flickers and we occasionally have short black outs.

I can’t imagine she’d venture out if the whole area was blacked-out. It would be safer in her locked room with her iPhone, (although she did mention wanting bottled water.) Could she not have called the guard station?

She seems to be a seasoned traveller, I’d expect her to have a backup power pack for her phone. I believe the killer turned it off or destroyed it at 9:00pm.

Maybe when she said I’m gonna to ask the guards to get me water she meant she’d call from her landline which should still work with no power. Then maybe her water was delivered with more than she bargained for. Also, if the power is off and my iPhone is low on charge then I’m 100% not FaceTiming a friend, that eats more charge than any other phone feature behind the flashlight I’ve read before somewhere.

This is the way I understood it actually.....that she summoned a guard from her room/villa, and he came to deliver it.

Costa Rican Police Found The Remains of a Woman Possibly Carla Stefaniak Buried in Escazu - Costa Rica Star News

[...]

The guard at Villa Le Mas, stated that the tourist had left the property at around 5 a.m., however, an Uber driver showed up at the property at 8:30 a.m. to pick her up, a guard shift change had taken place, and the new guard told the driver the woman had already left the property since that was the information he had received from his coworker.

The first security officer remains in custody of OIJ while the case continues under investigation.

The review that bothered me the most was about the owners finding out a would-be customer (a woman) wanted to bring her ailing father. It seemed they did everything to dissuade her from booking. Someone mentioned a body, has she been found?

I just remembered, years ago, I went to Barbados to meet friends who were there already. I was housed in an isolated part of the resort. The taxi driver who brought from the airport that night, hesitated to leave, made me very uncomfortable, acted too familiar. As soon as he was out I called the desk and asked them to change my room to the main building, which was done.

Sorry! Just read a body has been found.
How horrific.

This article includes a timeline with tons of info I hadn't seen yet.

Body found as authorities search for American woman who went missing in Costa Rica

[...]

Wednesday, Nov. 28

12:17 a.m.: T-Mobile records show that Stefaniak's phone connected to the internet for a short time around 12:17 a.m., the family's timeline stated.

5:10 a.m.: The owner of the hostel told the family that she checked out with her belongings just after 5 a.m., but her flight wasn't scheduled to take off until later that afternoon, her family told WFTS, adding that it was unlikely she would check out early for no reason. There were no security cameras on the property or street to verify the hostel owner's claim, the family said.

Oh I pictured her running outside and asking. I guess bc I would say I’m gonna call to the desk and ask for water or call the reception desk or call room service. The phrasing “guard” gave me a weird initial impression.

This is a google map view of the property, it's very large. Not sure where the back of the property ends and the nature reserve begins.

According to her Instagram, she and her SIL were staying in the Manuel Antonio area, the most popular resort area in CR. Carla Margarita (@carla_margarita) • Instagram photos and videos

I wonder what the 🤬🤬🤬 did with the luggage. Guard's home needs to be searched. Or he dumped them. Suitcases are bright and identifiable. They will be found I'd think. Since he gave a fake story about Carla leaving at 5 am, he sure had to get rid of them.....probably after the crime.

Drama does not help.

According to the security guard, Carla left the Airbnb at 5:30AM, and his boss - Airbnb Owner of the Costa Rica property - confirmed this information.

Information from the security guard, the Uber driver, and the owner of the Airbnb are currently in question.

According to where she was, where was she? This is the location per the tripadvisor information. It has been said that she was at a dead end road. .

Could someone please put a big X where the body was found, and another X at the location of the Airbnb.

RSBM. She may have gotten justice for herself by simply providing this benign (at the time) detail that the guards were unaware of. To them, she just asked for water. They had no clue she told someone she was going to do that. Or that she had scheduled an 8:30 Uber.

I agree! I was wondering if she intentionally told someone what she was going to do because it felt sketchy.

Just caught this article and this may have been discussed already....but fluid in her room has the same consistency as blood??? How does that coincide with her leaving on her own? JMO

Body found as authorities search for American woman who went missing in Costa Rica — ABC News

Whoa. I hadn’t read that. This seems like a game changer. Who brought the water? That’s gotta be who did this. How scary. My friends were in the Dominican Republic and were ambushed by security who they opened the door for. She was sexually assault and he tied up and robbed. They both came back different people. This could happen to anyone and traveling alone isn’t the catalyst always. I’m so sorry for her poor family who seemed to adore her.

Forgive me, but please spare the imaginary "I think she flew to and was seen in Disneyland" thoughts. This did not happen.

More likely, she checked into an Airbnb on November 27. Three hours later she contacted security to provide her with a water bottle. She has not been seen since and a body was found in the Airbnb garden a week later.

There's no easy way out of this for the owner of the Airbnb, or the security guard that was contacted to help with getting water.

If anyone spoke with the Embassy and FBI officials to mislead the investigation and give the impression that nothing was wrong and she left at 5AM, all their heads are under the scythe.

... scary, goal is to connect with anyone in the night that night.

rsbm

Oh he is already in custody? That's the first time I hear this. So Costa Rica LE clearly thinks along the same lines as us.

not identified yet but yes they found a body on the property

I think they found it behind the property, not on it.

No, the body was found on the property. Probably no driver.

And blood found in her room :(

Finding Carla

Family still waiting for confirmation.

ETA.
UPDATE!!!
12/4/18 00:15

“Around noon We were informed that “something happened” from authorities, while the media went crazy.

We were aware of more details of things then we are allowed to share.
We were informed that the authorities were going to let us now ASAP of what exactly happened, however 12hrs later they are still investigating and we are waiting for that phone call of any sort of real confirmation. The wait is the most painful experience of anxiety.”
