Josh Byrne, 30, was honeymooning in the area with his wife Bianca. The couple married last weekend in New Hampshire, the ABC affiliate reported, and were caught up in a flash flood while crossing a bridge near Playa Dominicalito.
Bianca swam to shore, but Byrne was swept away in the flood.
The missing man's family is now heading to the Central American country to try to search for him. WCVB reports the family has offered a $5,000 reward for Byrne's return, and that they are seeking support from Massachusetts political leaders in their search.
