Could this be how the world ends in 2012?

I believe the world will end on December 21, 2012..

Of course, the -other- interpretation of the Mayan calendar says that Dec. 21st is the day their Gods return. Interesting, given that the Mayan Gods bear a strong resemblance to ancient astronauts.

Am I expecting aliens to show up before Christmas? No.

Am I hoping aliens show up before Christmas? Yes.

Fingers crossed. :D

If you're excited for their return you need to see the movie "Prometheus" and read Kimsters' posts!

Nasa has publicly insisted that the supposed apocalypse theorised to occur on 21 December 2012 is not going to take place.
Conspiracy theorists, internet trolls and the very anxious have been convinced for years that the end of the Mayan calendar on the winter solstice will mean the end of the world.
But while it is true that on the 21st a calendar cycle called the 13th b'ak'tun will end, that doesn't necessarily mean all life on Earth will die, sceptics have insisted.
Funnily enough Nasa agrees.

Nasa has long maintained a page explaining why the world is probably not going to be destroyed for several billion years.
Getting specific on various end-of-the-world scenarios, Nasa siad there are no nearby asteroids or other objects that could hit the Earth on 21 December. Neither is there any chance of a dramatic solar flare attack, even though the Sun is in a period of high activity currently.
Other rumours that the Earth will suffer a blackout between 23-25 December took even Nasa by surprise, and Space.com said it recieved a collected "What?" from the researchers in attendance. more at link: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/11/29/nasa-the-world-will-probably-not-end_n_2210445.html</snip>

Massive solar storm to hit Earth in 2012 with 'force of 100m bombs'

...Similar storms back in 1859 and 1921 caused worldwide chaos, wiping out telegraph wires on a massive scale. The 2012 storm has the potential to be even more disruptive.

"The general consensus among general astronomers (and certainly solar astronomers) is that this coming Solar maximum (2012 but possibly later into 2013) will be the most violent in 100 years," News.com.au quoted astronomy lecturer and columnist Dave Reneke as saying.

"A bold statement and one taken seriously by those it will affect most, namely airline companies, communications companies and anyone working with modern GPS systems.

"They can even trip circuit breakers and knock out orbiting satellites, as has already been done this year," added Reneke.

No one really knows what effect the 2012-2013 Solar Max will have on today's digital-reliant society....

Oh well, it's been a nice ride while it lasted, eh?

The post above is the first post from this thread. Major solar storms are predicted from December of this year through January of 2013. They could be serious enough to significantly damage satellites and knock out communications.

I'm almost hoping it's true. I really don't want to do any Christmas shopping this year.

Interesting stuff about the solar storms...and I honestly don't know how NASA can say definitively that there won't be one on 12/21/12.

What I find fascinating is that there is enough scientific evidence of some things to lend some credence to the doomsayer's predictions and fears...and just enough "who knows what will happen if (X) happens..." to justify some concern.

I will admit to being quite interested/concerned, but not enough to stay home...I'm traveling on 12/21 (I think), so no...I'm not hunkering down in a shelter in the desert.

Maybe when I come back. LOL.

Well if it does I am going to be ticked ! There are many things I want to do before my time and my 9:00 to 5:00 M-F isnt it ... I would hate to spend my last year slave to the grind, when I could rack up my credit cards in Brazil, Mexico, Australia, New Zeland and the Caribbean with my family :)

haha seriously! i would not have spent the last few years in medical school studying my life away if this was truly going to happen! I would have gone broke living on a beach somewhere with my family!

Though I don't believe the world will be ending, I do believe there will be an extreme interruption in communications and satellite functioning.

I have noted that for the past few months there has been a huge uptick in news regarding black holes and other suns/planets that were previously unknown.

I hardly ever remember my dreams. But I remember the one about this - I was standing in my back yard with friends and we knew it was THE day everyone was talking about. And suddenly, everything moved. As if the Earth had aligned with all it is going to and it was enough to change the polarity/axis or whatever that we have. I felt the ground beneath my feet move enough to knock me down. And then I woke up. :)

Vatican: World Not Ending, Despite Maya Prediction

By Associated Press Dec. 12, 2012

(VATICAN CITY) — The Vatican’s top astronomer has some assurances to offer: The world won’t be ending in 10 days, despite predictions to the contrary.

The Rev. Jose Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, wrote in Wednesday’s Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano that “it’s not even worth discussing” doomsday scenarios based on the Mayan calendar that are flooding the Internet ahead of the purported Dec. 21 apocalypse...

I made an earthly reservation for the 27th. No wonder there wasn't a waiting list! I forgot this world was ending! Guess I'll have to make plans on another planet instead.

I thought you were already on another planet.

DD15 will be DD16 on the 22nd. she says "It figures, the world will end the day before I turn 16." *sigh*
