This was taking place about 7 miles away inside Carlton Reserve as my husband and I were finishing a brief hike on a 94 degree Memorial Day afternoon:

Venice brush fire affecting 650 acres in Carlton Reserve

Lightning is being blamed for the cause of the fire which is very possible as it has not rained for over a month down here.

We did not receive enough rain down here but 95% of the fire was put under control as of five days ago.

According to the article, a 34-acre fire occurred at Big Slough Preserve too.
