Criminal Defense Attorney for Casey - Linda Kenney Baden

  • #321
This is just my opinion, but I think he is running out of options and he will try to make Casey take a plea...

This may be a sign of that. We have long suspected that one of the points of contention with AL was that she wanted KC to consider a plea (remember AL defends against the Death Penalty. Any outcome that does not result in a DP verdict is a win in her book. MOST of her clients that she "successfully" defended will never see the outside of a prison. (or possibly all of them, I don't think she has any actual acquittal's) )

Now if we apply this to LKB I can't help but wonder. If there is the slightest nugget of truth in the travel expenses and costs reason for leaving (which I don't buy for a minute), the ultimate reason is that she would not recoup any such costs on the back end. Doing books, lectures, TV expert, heightened business from the publicity, etc. Win of Lose, she needs an actual public trial for that. A plea deal is just expense on her part that quietly goes away with no fame, no book marketing and no lecture tour. If they are seriously considering a plea deal it might be a strong reason for her to get out now. In a plea deal her area of expertise is not needed or used, she gains no fame or publicity, and never gets back any money she lays out. Simply cut her losses early and move on.

Although one other thing to watch out for. Keep an eye on the defense witness list. If LKB is no longer on the defense that does open the door back up for her husband to be used as an expert witness. Remember he will not give testimony in a case his wife is representing.

However, I do recall right when Caylee was found he did sound sympathtic towards her---and what could have potentially happened (i.e., cloroform/drugs to knock her out)---he never really presented it one way or another but it did seem like he would have been more against than pro....PLUS don't they already have ONE forensics guy? HHJP stated that one was enough....

What still boggles me is how everyone proudly spoke out about being "pro-bono"---they were there at the indigent hearing, they were questioned by JAC....YET now they bring up money????? It has to be more...I also would love to know if some of the shanagans of what is really going on swayed them to move along...i.e., PI trouble:waitasec:

Haven't read anyones comments yet, but I'm not surprised by this recent development. We all knew it was coming.
In the beginning all these slugs saw were $$ signs. Now that the well has dried up they're scattering like the roaches they are. Nobody wants to represent the scum known as casey anthony unless there's substantial money involved. They could care less about her.

I just hope this doesn't cause any set backs or delays. That's the last thing this case needs.

"Substantial" kind of stands out doesn't it? I think she's teed off on more that one thing. First not being reimbursed for past expenses and maybe she can see that this case (no matter what the outcome) could ruin rather that enhance her reputation.

Those pics scare me!

Well, if he's pro-bono I think he can.

I was originally thinking they would just appoint a public defender (and extend the trial date), but apparently there are others on the team that are death qualified.

I give Mason, oh, about 3 months. I think that will be part of his New Year's Resolution/gift to himself- to begin 2011 by saying bye-bye to this unwinnable, disaster prone trial.

I don't think he's having fun.

especially if his weekends get interrupted by silly little depos that should have been done months/year ago....

I was wondering why the lawyer Finnell was brought onto the case. Now it all makes sense. Baden withdrawing has probably been in the works for a while. Several very observant WSers had pointed out her absence several weeks ago.

As for the the standard parting statement of completely believing in their soon-to-be ex-client, I believe this is just that... a standard parting statement so they cannot be sued for jeopardising the defence.

Or, could there be some bit of evidence that has not been made public as of yet that is so damning that they now realize that they cannot tap dance around it? I'm hoping so!

So far he hasn't but my profile picture is a sock monkey dressed in hospital scrubs. I'm hoping he sees me as a potential forensic expert. JVM appears on what he can see of me as a like so......
If the real me dressed as a sock doesn't tickle his fancy then I'm not past creating the profile of a hot young latino lass living in Kissimmee (sp) if that's what it takes. :innocent: 'You're very handsome on TV..........' LOL!

Every shred of my womens intuition tells me that's exactly what's happened. If there were holes to punch in the actual so called junk science, Linda wouldn't be leaving. They can't poke holes in the science so they've brought on an ambulance chaser to attack the MD's who arrived at the scientific conclusions. Pathetic IMO.

Update
10/22/2010
Motion to Withdraw
as Counsel (Linda K. Baden, Esq)

Well now, look what happens when you get busy for a few days! :D

I'm thinking it is pretty simple. There is nothing left in this for her. I believe she might've stayed if Baez weren't calling all the shots - I think she knew he was an nutcase when HE personally referenced the Phil Spector case which she lost, hurt her credibility and totally massacred Henry Lee. When I was watching that exchage in court I immediately thought "LKB must be livid!!"....she wants to distant herself as far as possible from that mess. And it wasn't even the SA who interjected Spector, it was her own co-counsel. :loser: She is working pro bono, there is strong forensic evidence she is having trouble refuting and being associated with media-loving inept egoists like JB & CM - it probably wasn't a hard decision for her.

Would someone clear something up for me, please? I *thought* she attended & did the questioning in the Oak Ridge depos last month....Am I remembering correctly?

Someone needs to ask C Mason if he's having fun yet.

Totally cracked me up! :rotfl:

I think his facebook is public

His facebook WAS public before the JB & Geraldo boat pics went viral. After that he changed his settings and made it private. lol

She and her husband authored and pedaled their recent book, Skelaton Justice.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMt5CR_E29E[/ame]
Due to her being on this case, she was invited on many, many shows, for two years!
Make no mistake about it.....she got exposure from this.
In order to command the pay from her other clients for being a high profile lawyer, one indeed has to remain high profile. She got two years worth of self promotion, and as Mr.Sheaffer opined, now she is moving on.

I also agree she clashed with both Baez and Cheney, repeatedly. Who wouldn't?
Geraldo called it the most watched trial of the century.

LMAO!!
OT: I love sock monkeys! My DD sleeps with one every night as one of her 16 or so "lovies"....:)

I look positively Nordic (lol), but my DH is Hispanic. I wonder if that would score me a few points with Jose! Of course, a few clicks and he'll discover DH is a Dep. State Prosecutor and then we'll get the cold shoulder for sure. :snooty:

Beach, I've snipped a bit of your comment;

I think she knew he was an nutcase when HE personally referenced the Phil Spector case which she lost, hurt her credibility and totally massacred Henry Lee. When I was watching that exchage in court I immediately thought "LKB must be livid!!"....she wants to distant herself as far as possible from that mess. She is working pro bono, there is strong forensic evidence she is having trouble refuting and being associated with media-loving inept egoists like JB & CM - it probably wasn't a hard decision for her.

When Baez made that comment in court, my feeling was that he did it on purpose, maliciously and with afore thought - to make himself appear a little taller standing next to her - and as one of those innocent :innocent: comments people make "accidently" and later say - oh sorry - I just never thought of it that way, I mean it was your most recent high profile case and um...

What a yokel that guy is. I think what he secretly hopes is he will be the last guy standing on the day the trial starts - so he gets all the glory. This poor beleaguered lawyer :loser: who has soldiered on despite all these rats leaving the ship - the guy's a real professional - or that kind of thing...

Is that a new policy since the Spector trial?

  • #340
But his wife was involved in the case up to this point. I would think the good doctor would still have reservations about testifying when there is nothing to testify about. Plus I do not think he is prepared to lie or stretch the truth or frankly work for nothing. jmo, as always.
