Phillip Paul explains why he escaped

"I haven't been adjusting to my medications very well. When I get my shot my mind files get all upset and everything, I can't think right," Paul said. "I messed up. I'd been inside the building, light for 15 minutes a day for the last year. When I got down to the fairgrounds I just thought I'd try and go see and some sunshine for a few days or something."

Phillip Paul says he saw an opportunity to escape and took it, jumping a fence and walking away from a field trip at the Spokane County Interstate Fair. Paul says it was a spur of the moment decision that wasn't planned.

If Paul is being truthful and it was a "spur of the moment decision", were the stories of his planning a lie (a cover up?)

With the news of the CEO resigning, I'm really wondering what the heck this hospital has been doing all these years. Perhaps much more news will come to light?

In one of the articles, someone says that the medications weren't working properly or something to that effect, then it goes on to say he didn't plan the escape but in earlier articles when he was on the run, the comments (from the hospital, I think?) seemed to point to a well planned getaway. It seemed really planned for a person who's meds weren't working OR it was a complete fabrication? I'm really left wondering about his sanity (or lack of)? :waitasec:

Total costs added up in Paul search

The Department of Social and Health Services has asked Eastern State Hospital to investigate how Phillip Paul got telephone access yesterday.

Paul is the criminally insane killer who escaped from a field trip to the Spokane County Fair a week ago today.

He is back at Eastern State tonight, in the forensic units highest security ward.

We have been told he is not allowed telephone access right now, but yesterday, two other local t.v. stations had phone interviews with Paul.

[snip]

Spokane County says it spent over $37,000 to catch Phillip Paul, and the bill is already on its way to state officials in Olympia.

Paul needs to be in prison. He's not mentally ill, he's a sociopath.

Court Files: Paul exchanged sex with nurse for contraband

Yuck!

Yeah, I would love to know why he was diagnosed as "insane" when he reportedly had the mental wherewithal to try to cover up his crime. I thought "insane" meant that you didn't know what you were doing was wrong and therefore wouldn't try to get away with it.

He's had a lot of chances to be released before and apparently blew all of them. He doesn't deserve to be out and really is a menace, IMO. I hope he won't be granted any more releases and won't be given any more chances to get away, either. Why has this hospital been treating him with such laxity? They don't search his backpack? They don't check for contraband? They let him go out on a field trip (which IMO he shouldn't qualify for anyway) with hardly any supervision (11 staff to 31 patients)?

How can they now be reporting that the escape wasn't planned when in other reports he took almost all of his belongings with him?

Oh, and another thing, what is a "criminally insane" inmate doing with a myspace page?
