I always like BGG's posts--I think he has common sense plus street smarts. And I'm probably being swayed by the Planned Parenthood story, vs. Barry reminding me of someone I know and trust. But the one thing I'm wary of , which someone brought up on another board, is the kid saying, "Mom, I don't want to go home, HE'S been touching me." And mom says, "WHO'S BEEN TOUCHING YOU??!!!! WAS IT BARRY???!!!!" At which point, the kid, frightened, says yes. Even if it was actually...someone else with access, and bad impulse control.

Here is what the article in the paper actually said...just a little different but the part that the person on the other board wrote down adds a little more flavor to it............

The girl "explained that she did not want to go home because of Barry," police said in the report. When her mother asked her to explain, the girl said "that Barry puts it on her belly and her nose," the report said.

See? The mother didn't even mention Barry according to police.

Well, to be honest, we don't really know how the little girl's confession came about. It still could have happened in a leading way. The Mom's not going to tell the police she led the little girl, so it wouldn't be in the police report if she did.

I'm not saying that she lead the 2-year-old. I'm just saying the police report is based strictly on what the Mom says.

There's a guy in my home town that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows is a pedophile......

BTW, this guy was a raging alcoholic as well.
The town pedophile where I grew up was my youngest sister's godfather! Yikes. All the kids knew he was way creepy, but the adults seemed oblivious. This was back in the '70s and I just think heads were buried in the sand back then. This guy never got to me, but he got to my little sister and who knows how many others.

Anyway, when I was grown, this guy and his wife moved to California where he assaulted two young children and was sent to jail for a while. I am so glad that adults are more aware of these issues today. In my opinion, we have come a long way in that regard - though we still have miles to go to protect our children from predators.

I also wanted to point out that although there is plenty of evidence to indicate the victim in this case was an alcoholic, that does not mean he was a pedophile. Again, in my family growing up, you couldn't throw a brick without hitting a raging alcoholic (many of them male), but none of them were or are child molesters.

Oh, Boy.You were very lucky.all over the world there are sex offenders who manage to get away with their 'evil' doings. Here if a sex offender gets out of jail we are not told where they have been housed. Unless they are particularly notorious and the press decide to 'find' them. Some have been put near schools, parks etc. Your Dad sounds like a straight shooter and his actions probably kept you safe. He offered a verbal warning and fair enough I say.
He was also a retired deputy sherrif and reserve state trooper at the time, which probably put more than a little fear of God in the perv.

I agree most alcoholics aren't child molesters, but its also true that a certain subspecies of molester are alcoholic/addicts. Whether they molest because their inhibitions are lowered, or they drink to lower their inhibitions in order to molest, or drink to self-medicate in order to live with what they are/do, is anyone's guess.

I agree

I also think a parent KNOWS when a child is telling the truth about such things. No two year old makes it up. If she said the neighbor touched her inappropriately "down there" then he did.

Parents can be VERY mistaken in interpreting what a 2-year-old says. Also, the tendency by parents to lead while questioning is undeniable.

A 2-year-old is an extremely unreliable "witness" about anything.

Regardless of what actually happened in this case, the father had no right to do what he did and his actions will probably cause him to be absent from his child's raising.

Here's a more detailed version of the police info.

I still don't understand the "hee-haw" part. How did Barry make the little girl make a "hee-haw" sound?

I can't help but wonder whether she saw her parents having sex and her mom making "hee-haw" sounds.

From the description given by the child it sounds like she was digitially manipulated into orgasm.

I don't believe that a 2-year-old girl can have an orgasm. Are you getting this from the Hee Haw story? I am not following your train of thought.

I'm going to correct myself. This link says that a toddler can masturbate themselves to orgasm. " A toddler may even masturbate herself to orgasm complete with panting, red face, and a big sigh at the end.."

Who knew?

normally i would say "GOOD-- wish this would happen more often!" but... you had better be damn sure of what happened. and it's true that 2-yr olds and even older- are often incapable of distinguishing reality from fantasy. but if she *was* telling the truth, then- GOOD-- wish this would happen more often. and i hope the guy gets off easy, because he's my hero. sometimes the law just doesn't cut it.

Well, I must say I am surprise by the link about toddler masturbation. I didn't think they managed THAT. Especially girls.

I still have trouble with the notion that this fat, drunk guy can get into the house, into her room, "make her say hee haw" and make a clean getaway without parents or dogs noticing.

Maybe it will become more clear eventully....

I was surprised too! I have two little boys and they do their fair share of yanking, but nothing that looks pleasurable!

If this guy digitally manipulated her, there should be some indication of that in an exam of her.

I so wish we knew the layout of the little girl's house!

Only if he pentrated her. What's being discussed is often called "frottage". It leaves little to no physical evidence, which is why molesters of very young children prefer it.

HOUSE had an episode where a mother thought her 2 year old daughter was having epileptic seizures. Turns out the child was "marching the penguin" or "finding nemo", as House described it.

Not to get too hung up on terminology, but I thought non-consensual "frottage" is more like "dry humping" where the perv rubs his parts up against the victim. Like on a crowded bus. I didn't think it involved finger-to-parts contact.
