Here is a slightly more detailed article. In addition to being plump, Barry had nerve damage in his legs, making it even less likely that he could hoist himself through a window.

Wow, did you see the comments that people posted to that story? There were only three, but the one was weird:

whats interesting is edington is a islam-convert and supported the terrorists killing in 2001. He said that the us bombed their country so they were just doing it back and there was nothing wrong with it. So he's always been a supporter of murder. I was only a matter of time.

Pretty funny comment below. The wife was pretty clever, wouldn't you say? Now, since a two year old really didn't say what her mommy said she said, that baby and her mommy were able to spend an additional weekend up in Rhode Island and send the Daddy up the river for life. If I were J.E. I'd tell the fam that they could kiss that million dollar bond good bye and find Zihuatanejo and live with Andy Dufrane. There's only one OJ Simpson per generation.

The Islamic convert thing is unusual. I wonder if it is true or if this guy is making it up. I hadn't read that anywhere.

I still want to know if the daughter really said those things, if the wife was leading her into saying those things, or if the wife completely made it up.

Another possibility that just occurred to me is that the daughter may have been remembering someone else. They had only lived in this neighborhood for a few months. She said she didn't want to go "home". Maybe "home" meant their old home and something had happened there.

Articles state that she mentioned the murdered neighbor by name, so I doubt it was a prior neighbor.

I think the daughter really said a lot of those things. I don't think the mother lied outright.

I think both the mother and father are naive for not realizing that a 2-year-old slips in and out of fantasy and reality with great ease. I think the parents didn't like this man and the daughter certainly picked up on this.

I think there might have been some dynamic between the mother and father where the mother really wanted to move because this guy creeped her out. Maybe her husband said "we can't because of..whatever." Maybe her phone call to the husband was accusatory - "See what happened since you made us stay in this place." The father freaked and took insane action.

I think both parents failed this little girl. The mother should have filtered this information and gotten more "proof". The mother is perhaps a hysterical type - she was visiting family - maybe they are hysterical types too and got the mother riled up even more. Maybe the family didn't like her husband and somehow blamed him - or wanted a reason to blame him for something happening to their precious grandaughter/niece.

I think there's a good chance that the father was molested as a child - or somehow harmed, left unsafe. I think the father failed the little girl secondly. Even if the molestation had occurred, what he did is absolutely crazy - his decision will essentially take him further away from his daughter.

I would love to hear from people who know anything about this father and mother.

The way the police word this makes it sound like the molestation charges were a hoax.
"We're confident this 2-year-old was not molested," said Capt. Gary MacNamara. "We are confident in our investigation that Mr. Edington did in fact kill Mr. James. We are as confident in our investigation that Mr. James did not molest the Edingtons' daughter."

MacNamara confirmed that investigators interviewed the girl but declined to release further details.

MacNamara also would not comment on whether the girl's mother would be charged."

The way that I understood the news reports was that this was all a big fat lie. Maybe the lawyer's wife knew what he would do, and wanted to be rid of him , because this sure was an evil thing to do to him and to the neighbor instead of calling the police. If it was a lie, then of course, she couldn't call the police but they may be calling on her.

Wow. If this was a lie, I hope she is charged with something. I knew there was something really screwed up between the husband and wife. Unbelievable that she would make this up.

Remember Jonathon Edington who stabbed his neighbor to death after a phone call in which Mrs. Edington told him that the neighbor had molested their daughter? You may also recall that the investigation indicated that the daughter had NOT been molested.

Well, a court has frozen Edington's assets. Up to $5 million.

I don't quite get it - this very young lawyer, living in a crummy little rental house has $5 million in assets to freeze? Or are they freezing "up to" that amount just in case he ever gets it?

I want more info!!!!

Thanks for posting this. I was just thinking about this case yesterday. I'm glad they have frozen his assets. I think that you are right about the "up to" amount in case he ever gets it, but who knows..

This article makes more sense. The assets have not yet been frozen. Edington has been ordered to disclose what his assets are because the lawsuit is seeking $5 million.

Also, his wife stopped cooperating with the police after the child abuse experts couldn't get the daughter to corroborate the alleged molestation. Hmmmmmm....

This is weird, though:

"During the course of the assault, Rita James [the victim's mother] said, at one point she heard her son 'exclaim that he did not know [the] defendant Edington's daughter.' "

So, maybe Edington really did think he had molested her?
I am so confused! Did the little girl's mother make it up? Did she just want to move?

Oh, yes, I believe Edington did think that James had done something. Problem is, he flipped out without any evidence and murdered the guy. I suspect the wife made it up because she didn't like seeing James walking around his bedroom with his privates exposed.

Attorney Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter In Fatal Stabbing

BRIDGEPORT -- An attorney who fatally stabbed a neighbor he thought had molested his daughter pleaded guilty to manslaughter Friday, attorneys said.

Jonathon Edington, 29, was originally charged with murder. He pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter in Bridgeport Superior Court, said prosecutor Jonathan Benedict.

From above link:
Fairfield police have said they found no evidence that James had molested the Edingtons' daughter. They also said Christina Edington has refused to cooperate with the investigation into the slaying.

"We are very pleased that Mr. Edington accepted responsibility for his act," said Capt. Gary MacNamara. "We do, however, remain extremely saddened by the fact that Mr. James was an innocent victim in this homicide."

Benedict called the molestation claim "bogus," but said Christina Edington was not charged with a crime because she never gave a sworn statement to police.

"There's no statute in Connecticut that covers that conduct," Benedict said.

A defense psychiatrist determined Edington's wife suffered from postpartum depression, he said.

Thanks for the update, SewingDeb. I think of this case often. I think the disposition is fair and am glad he pled guilty. So sad that his wife - in the throws of her depression - riled him into this.

Many many lifes irrevocably altered in the wave of a huge untruth.....

Prayers for both of the families.

You're welcome Southcitymom. This is a very sad case...for both families.

I think the civil lawsuit is still pending.
