does anyone know if connies parents are alive or if anyone in her family is still alive? her story hits home alot im from ct lived here all my life and i used to live sorta near lakeville i think it was maybe 15-20 minnuts away i wasnt even around in 52i was born in 81 29 years after she vanished. just knowing that her parents went years without knowing what happend to her must hurt. its like janice pockett she went missing from ct as well in 73 vanished without a trace. its so sad that innocent children were taken and killed and such. i often wonder what posseses a man or women to do something like that

Yes her father and brother are and they continue to search for her. But her mother passed on a couple of years after Connie went missing. Died of a broken heart some say.

The Connie Smith case was one of the first to use a missing person poster and a reward for finding her dead or alive. ($3000.00 for the first year that was renewed by her grandfather the second year) Thousands of posters were printed and the Connecticut State Police sent them out everywhere. Her father and family continues to follow up on any and all tips. The case is not closed, and it is still active with LE.

I know special patrols were sent to search for her on each shift, there were many many ground searches, including horseback, something a little unusual here in Connecticut, there were plane searches and many tips were received and followed up on from all over the country. Even a psychic horse was tried at one point.

I don't know about any strong leads, but yes "we" are looking to find Miss X, who ever she might be. We think the remains are in AZ, just where is the question.

I found 3 articles last night from the Dallas Morning news. Little miss x remains were taken to Spearfish, SD to be examined by a DR. Floyd B. Ward. Later at least her jaw and mandible bones were taken to Denver, CO and examined by a team of doctors. Articles were dated 23rd, 25th, and 26th of November 1962.

A team of Denver doctors agreed Saturday the skeleton of a girl found in Grand Canyon National Park was that of long-missing grandaughter of a former Wyoming governor, an Arizona lawman reported.
But undersheriff Clarke Cole of Flagstaff, AZ said the doctors planned to hold one more consultation Saturday night with an oral surgeon before announcing a final decision........

The article is dated 1962. Why then, after all these years, are both cases still unsolved?

Bones found not those of missing girl

..........A dental surgeon, Dr. David N. Berman, and a pathologist, Dr. George I. Ogura, said an examination of bones found near Arizona's Grand Canyon in 1958 indicated they were not the skeletal remains of Connie Smith, grandaughter of former Wyoming Gov. Nels H. Smith. They said undersheriff Clarke Cole of Coconino county, AZ concurred in their findings.........

Talelights believes she has a solid lead on the location of Little Miss X's remains.
If so, DNA testing will be conducted to answer the question once and for all. If this is not Connie, a facial reconstruction of Miss X has already been arranged.

That's what I thought too, and it doesn't really say why Berman and Ogura came to this conclusion. Everyone else seemed do certain it was Connie.

Ya know, the way this reads, the teeth match but the rest of the skeleton doesn't! (The undersheriff concurred? What would he know about a girl who disappeared years before on the other side of the country?)

By the way, I believe the undersheriff may be involved in the final disposition of the remains...Hmmmmm.....

Actually the teeth did not really match. There was something about an indentation and if a tooth may or may not have been pulled. The dentists all were of different opinions on it at the time and none seemed to agree.



The undersheriff, who actually hand carried the remains to the family compound and met with the family and the dentist, had another reason that may have lead to the conclusion it may not have been Connie Smith, which I can not go into here. With that being said, the only way to be sure, would be DNA. Which is ready and available as soon as the remains are located?



As far as the final disposition, we are not sure if it was the undersheriff or the sheriff who had the final disposition. We may have some further answers shortly.

Were you able to locate any information on the original find? Besides the mention in this article. I would love to read what was reported when these were first found, that might give us some clues to chase.

You might try simply contacting municipal cemeteries which accept "pauper" burials. Where would the police normally send unidentified dead or homless persons who die and have no family?

Sometimes, Cemeteries have some interesting things in their records. I was once able to obtain a death certificate and autopsy report on a homicide victim from a cemetery office.

The local funeral home is a good place to start a search. They usually maintain good records. I found an unknown infants burial place... it was Potters Field... found in the middle of a city cemetary.

Potters Field is what most city's call the area set aside for unknown or indigent burials.
