CT - Death penalty scrapped in Connecticut. Petit family killers will not be executed

  • #21
I am not sure what I think of this.
I think they should live to suffer. I think they should live fearing death like the people they hurt.

Many years ago I was in a bad place and decided to connect with someone in a worse place, I picked someone on death row..
He described his days and what he could and couldn't do.

I honestly think "life" will be better for these guys.
Meaning, a whole lot worse.

Death Row, they will sit secluded and safe with fan mail from deranged women who wants to "help".
Prison, he wil be attacked so many times media willl stop reporting.about it.

JMO.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. This guy wanted death I'm kind of glad he didn't get what he wanted. I doubt they are haunted by what they have done because that would require a conscience. This crime is one of the worst I have ever encountered I so admire Mr Petit for being able to survive this tragedy when it would easily destroy most people.

Horrific miscarriage of justice. I consider Doc to be a personal friend and I'm awestruck by his strength and courage in the face of unfathomable loss and grief. Grief and loss compounded by disappointment and betrayal of our [in]justice system. He's a remarkable human being.

I wish him much success on his bid.

Thanks, Paige, and I am saddened to learn that you know Dr. Petit. Yes, horrific, indeed.

From the good article you posted: (BBM)

The death penalty would ultimately be repealed a year later, but with a provision that the men already on death row — including Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky, who were convicted of the Petit murders — would have their death sentences carried out. The Supreme Court last year struck down the prospective portion of the law saying the death penalty "no longer comports with contemporary standards of decency."

Why? Have they not heard of the "grandfather clause". At the time of sentencing, the death penalty was legal. I just don't really understand.

I am sure no one took offense, AliceInPain. I imagine we all want the worst punishment for cases this awful. At least now they don't have the same "perks" (endless appeals, safety from others, etc) they would have on death row.

RSBM

Feeling a molecule better after reading some of these posts.
It was so depressing reading about the decision NOT to carry out the DP --if there was ever a good example as to why this should happen...
But it's possible they both would live out their useless lives on death row , protected. Unlike their victims.

I wish for continued healing for Mr. Petit. He is amazing to me, in that he has gone on with his life. Think I'd be a basket case most days and unable to function.
:moo:
