Details of Disappearance
Jay left her Norwalk, Connecticut home on February 7, 1983. She had lost her job and was depressed about it, and decided to go to New York City. She packed a bag and went to stay with a friend who lived on West End Avenue near 100th Street in New York City.

According Jay's friend, she stayed for five days, and during that time they did not argue and Jay did not mention plans to leave. When her friend returned home from work on February 13, however, Jay was gone. She has never been heard from again.

Norwalk police are investigating Jay's disappearance. Her case remains unsolved.

Norwalk police are asking the public to help solve a decades-long cold case.
Norwalk resident Eileen Jay disappeared 40 years ago in New York City.

Police say she was visiting a friend there but left after a few days without indicating where she was going.
She was last seen in early February 1983. She was 27 years old at the time.
Police are still looking for information in hopes of finding her or any information about the case.

The US Index to Public Records on Ancestry has a 1983 address record for an Eileen Jay (born in Feb 1956 as was the missing) at 300 Mercer Street in Lower Manhattan. Is this an old address (given that she was born in New York) or is it possible that she moved to an apartment using her knowledge of the city? This address is near to the East 4th Street address for her on a passenger document of her arriving back in New York from Alaska as a 4 year old, so she may have known that particular area. I assume the police and family would have looked into this but who knows.
