This happened in the neighborhood where i work. On the news the Grandmother said that the doctor said the injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome. There were also bruises on the baby that looked like knuckle marks. I'm sure there's more to the story than what police are saying because in order to be charged with capital felony there has to be evidence that she intentionally hurt the child. Although in the police report they made public it only states that she changed her story several times because she was scared people would think she was a bad mother.

There's another rumor going around too that the girl's husband left her that day and she was destraut and took it out on the baby.

Hi italianchica, thanks for information. Now that explains why Torres bail is set at $1 million, for a moment there I was thinking OMG, what a terrible accident. Of course I was also thinking if it were accident why all the stories. I didn't know about bruises either.

There are a lot of different stories going around and it seems that the news is reporting a bunch of different things. The mother was on the news last week. She said that she was a single mother just trying to make an honest living for her kids' sake and that working a minimum wage job, she couldn't afford regular child care. She said Torres was struggling as well and she thought they were helping each other out.

I'm glad the mother donated the childs' organs though. She certainly turned an awful situation into something life-changing for someone elses child.

There's also a message board link to our local newspaper's web site on each article. they ended up shutting that particular one down because the child's family was so outraged of what happened they were saying a lot of things about the evidence found that shouldn't have been public.

I still say if you cause these kinds of injuries to a child that's MURDER. not manslaughter. but I will take what I can get.

I was actually surprised that she got 16 years. Based on the 'accidental' story she gave. Unless they were able to prove otherwise. Especially, that she was not charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, but 1st Degree Manslaughter, so I think there is more to the story.
