An Avon day care worker was arrested Wednesday after a police investigation into his alleged inappropriate contact with a child.
Jan Carlos Berrios-Otero, 29, of Avon, is facing charges of one count of risk of injury to a minor and one count of sexual assault in the fourth degree. He is currently held on a $250,000 bond.
Avon police responded on Tuesday to the BrightPath Avon Early Learning and Child Care Center on Simsbury Road. Police said an administrator at the center told them of Berrios-Otero's inappropriate contact with a child inside the center from the previous day.
Following an investigation, Avon police took Berrios-Ottero custody at his residence in Middletown, with assistance from West Hartford and Middletown police.
A BrightPath spokesperson said in a statement, obtained by FOX61 Thursday, that they were made aware of "an incident" at its center on Tuesday and that it took "immediate action."
"The individual involved is no longer employed by BrightPath," the company said in its statement.
