I’m very local, and this article posted by a friend on FB is the first I’m hearing of this!

School teacher who self-quarantined at Connecticut home for three weeks vanishes after going for a walk in early May

Only that one FB post by the WHPD. I’m a little confused, though, he was lsw a face covering and wind breaker, at 1am? And he was suffering COVID symptoms, but had been self-isolating. Why does a guy who was smart enough to self-isolate go out in the middle of the night? That part is very concerning to me.

He seems like a very caring man, I hope they find him safe.

School teacher who self-quarantined at Connecticut home for three weeks vanishes after going for a walk in early May

Nearly eight weeks have passed since a beloved Connecticut school teacher disappeared in the early morning hours of his 50th birthday on May 7, 2020, and family members are worried sick.

Both Lori, and Bob Tavares, who is another of Gil’s cousins, told Dateline that the family was also concerned because Gil had been experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and had self-quarantined for three weeks prior to his disappearance.

Gil’s cousins told Dateline they have no reason to believe that Gil would harm himself or that anyone would harm him. They added that he had spoken to his brother shortly before his disappearance and expressed how excited he was to visit him in New York when the pandemic ends.

Gil Cunha was last seen in the early hours of his 50th birthday on May 7, at his family’s home in the West Shore neighborhood.

Cunha’s father saw him watching TV between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m., but then his mother woke up to find him gone

“If something happened to him because of the virus, or if he harmed himself, or even if someone did something to him, we would still find him. But he’s just gone without a trace,”

He only lived 3 blocks from the beach. I wonder if he went into the water, drowned and then drifted to Long Island. I didn't read where he was found, if on the beach that would make sense.

This was my thought as well. I can't find any reference to where he was found, but I have family a street over and have made that exact walk many times. Unfortunately, I think this was either intentional on his part or a freak accident.
