WATERBURY- It’s been a week since any family, friends and employees of Waterbury’s Janet Avalo-Alvarez saw her. However, one of her brother’s theorized Tuesday about why nobody can find his sister or her boyfriend, who’s become a person of interest.

The family of Janet Avalo-Alvarez feels she is definitely still alive and thinks it’s possible the 26-year-old and her 32-year-old boyfriend, Alfredo Peguero-Gomez, got in trouble financially.

“Maybe they take a loan from someone who they shouldn’t take,” said Randy Avalo. “I don’t know. Man, it’s too much things crossing in my head.”

Police search woods in Wolcott, possibly connected to missing Waterbury woman
A large police investigation is underway in Wolcott Tuesday night.

Police were seen searching the woods in the area of 250 Wolcott Road.

Officials said the search for a missing Waterbury woman, Janet Avalo-Alvarez, is ongoing and led investigators into Wolcott.


Police are expected to give an update on the investigation around 6:45 p.m.

Police Say Body Found in Wolcott May be Tied to Disappearance of Waterbury Woman

Waterbury police say the search for a missing woman has led them into Wolcott where a body was found Tuesday.

Police said the body, which was found in the woods off Wolcott Road, has not been identified as this time.

Police said officers went to the home Avalo-Alvarez and Peguero-Gomez share on Nov. 13 to perform a welfare check. Peguero-Gomez was there and told officers he did not know where Avalo-Alvarez was.

After searching her business, her car and her home, police said they have evidence that Avalo-Alvarez did not leave on her own accord, but they kept those clues close to the vest during a news conference on Monday.

According to police, on Nov. 14 around 1 a.m. a gray 2010 Toyota Corolla with Connecticut plates owned by Peguero-Gomez left the Waterbury home. The vehicle traveled over the George Washington Bridge and was later found by authorities in New Jersey at Newark Liberty International Airport. Police have been unable to locate Peguero-Gomez.
