I think he felt emasculated by her and her family. Although he was educated, he did not come from family money.

He mooched off her parents and her trust fund money. Her father founded a brokerage firm... FD was indebted to her father and owed him ~$1.7 million. He wasn’t like her dad, Hilliard Farber... They had the power and he owed them money. He was angry.

I expect that LE has now spoken with most of the important players in this and can catch them in lies.

I wonder if he ever repaid her parents anything or if he stopped loan payments after her father died.

But what is so sad is that the system of cronyism is so obvious and the parties involved (from judges down to the GALs) don't even hide anymore and most just accept the sad system for what it is.
What is GALS?

What is GALS?
Guardian ad litum. An independent party appointed by the court to represent the children and their best interest in a case like this.

He claimed the money was a gift, although it clearly was not.

“Gifts” don’t come with payment plans.

But court papers in two lawsuits filed in 2018 show Fotis Dulos stopped making payments and owes his estranged wife’s family $1.7 million.

Jennifer Dulos’ mother claims son-in-law owes her $1.7M

Sadly, I wonder if her father hadn't passed away, he probably
would not have allowed the financial downfall to get this far.
Her father was a bright, financially savvy guy. He knew how to
make money and how to invest it to make more money.
FD only knew how to take advantage of someone else's money
and it doesn't appear he was very successful at multiplying
that borrowed nest egg. for all his Ivy League education, it
didn't seem to help him much in the real world.

Once her father passed, and no more easy money for FD,
he decided to default on his current obligations to her family.
And it just went downhill from there. His personal image was
shot, he needed other women to boost his shattered ego.
JD was probably nagging him to pay back her family and he went
on the downward spiral to strike back and get revenge to those
he believed wronged him.
He totally lost control and the rest is history.

From Jennifer Farber Dulos Missing: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com :

Jennifer Dulos’ mother, Gloria Farber, has been embroiled in a legal dispute with her son-in-law, Fotis Dulos, since shortly after her husband’s death. Gloria Farber is the executor of Hilliard Farber’s estate. According to a complaint filed in Connecticut court in January 2018, Farber is seeking $500,000 that her now-deceased husband gave to Fotis and Jennifer Dulos in 2012. Gloria Farber says they promised to pay him back with interest, but failed to do so by June 2017.

Fotis Dulos filed a response arguing that any money given to him by Hilliard Farber was a gift, not a loan.

Later in 2018, attorneys for Gloria Farber filed a revised complaint stating that Fotis Dulos had borrowed $2.3 million from a bank to buy his home in Farmington. According to court documents, Fotis Dulos agreed to make payments on the loan and Jennifer’s parents put up security. Gloria Farber’s attorneys say Fotis Dulos has defaulted and failed to make payments on the loan, leading the bank to charge Gloria Farber’s collateral with the payments. A trial management conference is set in that case for November 2019.

I don't know. I'm going to need to see the diploma from Columbia, lol. It's hard to believe that someone with an MBA would be this unable to make his own way in the world. I know it happens, but I'm just not completely convinced that this guy's credentials are legit.
I think his degrees are legit. I found online the commencement brochure for Brown, and he is listed. I didn't delve more into it than that, but I think he did attend the schools he said he did.

And this from Report: Search for New Canaan mother shifted to Hartford, two… – WTNH.com Hartford :

Gloria Farber and her husband’s estate are also suing Fotis Dulos and his company, Fore Group, in a separate case filed in February 2019. In that case, Gloria Farber’s attorneys claim Hilliard Farber loaned money to Dulos’ company starting in 2004 for the purchase of properties. Fotis Dulos would then repay his father-in-law when he re-sold the properties, according to court documents. But Farber’s’ attorneys say Dulos and his company still owe $1 million on a $1.5 million loan made in April 2015.

Fotis Dulos’ attorneys also denied wrongdoing in the second lawsuit and again said any money given to him and his company by Hilliard Farber was meant to be a gift. That case is also still ongoing.

I'm curious about the timing. Jennifer's dad passed away in 2017. She filed for divorce in 2017. And her mother sued FD (not sure if that was 2017, but it would've been around the same time).

And, according to his LinkedIn, he has worked for Ernst and Young. I would believe the pedigree.

Yeah I think his education is legit, since it's reported he met Jennifer while both were students at Brown.

The parents were willing to give and give as long as he played the good husband. Once he stopped and found Miss Argentina... Guarantee they didn't give unconditionally. JMO.

Here's my hunch at the moment. I think he expected to be the person called when Jennifer went missing that Friday evening. When he got that call, I think he intended to collect the kids, totally bi-passing the grandmother. That's my guess and speculation what his plan was.

If the kids do have Greek passports, he could've left with them (or sent them with girlfriend) out of the country. I have no idea if he was ever able to get foreign passports for the kids, but once they had them, he could take them anywhere in the world.

I don't think he expected the nanny to take the kids to grandma's home and I don't think he expected the friends to call 911. Hooray for the nanny and for friends!

I hope she has set up a will and trust (I’m guessing yes) so that if she is dead he can’t get her assets as they are still married unfortunately. I’m guessing her business savvy father and mom set things up with her to protect her particularly after she left him- otherwise he gets it I would imagine under CT probate- JMO
You are correct. I feel like I've been on the soap box quite a bit today but I just want to put it out there that if folks think there are issues with family law legal sector in CT then prepare to lose your minds with an honest assessment of the probate process in CT.

The probate process probably most closely resembles the classic gravy train or rather MONEY TRAIN for the limited people involved in the process that can ever be imagined. I would have to research it more but my recollection is that there have been zero or virtually zero changes to the probate process in CT in over 100 years. The power of probate judges is extreme in my experience in CT and its shocking to come from another state and see how things are 'handled' in CT. Again I wish the press would take up this topic as if more people knew how the process worked and how much it costs then the few senior citizens left in the state (overstatement to make a point, sorry!) that haven't already left the state would pack up and leave pronto.

EXCELLENT point.
Thanks for the support but my comment is frankly delusional in the extreme but I put it out there to raise the issue so people not from the area are aware of the situation. Judges don't go after judges and judical reform will never happen in CT as the entire system is crafted around a well oiled financial compensation machine to keep people in the system silent. The state has had some very well educated Atty Generals and there have been well educated Govenors in the past (not the near past but distant past) but nothing changes.
