Interesting you should ask....cameras in the park have been a somewhat controversial topic over the past few years and so far as I know there aren't any cameras on any of the trails that criss cross the property. The main buildings at Waveny (Waveny House, Lapham Center and Paddle Tennis House) I believe have security systems wired into the police of some sort. Its truly a fantastic park but over the years there have been issues both with off leash dogs and being being followed and/or attacked. New Canaan is generally considered a safe place even though most people have alarms and/or camera security wired into the NCPD. There aren't any panic stations where you can go to alert the police similar to what you see on many college campuses. IMO folks are living the past and have a false sense of security when using the park. The park is quite large and unless you are walking the field areas near the main house its likely that you may only see one or two people on a run around the perimeter of the park. If its busy or a nice day you might see more people on the outer trails. Closer to the main house there are usually more people. The Lapham Center on the far side of the park is a Senior/Community Center of sorts and is busy during the day but it closes at 5 pm. What I am trying to describe is a situation where there is usually activity in the main area around Waveny House, the dog park, the paddle tennis courts, swimming pool in the summer time and Lapham Center during the day but the perimeter trails are usually sparsely populated IMO except during peak running hours. Are there places in the running area with cameras?
Lapham Rd is used by some as a short cut to one of the local train stations so in the morning you will have commuter traffic to the train station (Talmadge Hill on Metro North), local traffic driving to work and school and of course school buses. Outside of commuting time and school time there isn't a huge amount of traffic on Lapham. In the summertime there is alot of traffic on the portion of Lapham near the entrance to Waveny Pool. But this entrance to the Waveny Pool is before the area where it sounds like the car was parked. Most people enter the park from the area near Waveny Pool or off South Avenue. Some people also park at New Canaan HS and walk some of the trails or fields near the Lapham Center. The park is filled with soccer fields which are often used during the afternoon. Depending on the season track and field/cross country runners from the local HS are active in the park and afternoons at the park can be very active at Waveny. People also walk their dogs all over the park throughout the day. The park technically closes at sunset and opens at sunset but there is no locked gates or ongoing security to enforce these guidelines.Does anyone here who is local, know how busy and well traveled Laphan Road is during the morning? Could she have been moved from her car to another without any passing traffic seeing it happen?
A bit more information about the lawsuit between JD mother and STBX:
Jennifer Dulos’ mother claims son-in-law owes her $1.7M
Has Fotis (estranged husband) been questioned yet? I don't see anything about this in any of the reports - though they probably would keep it all confidential at this point.
Also, I'm glad NCPD called in the state troopers - I don't trust them. I live within walking distance of New Canaan, and in the mid-'90s, my boyfriend and I got into a pretty bad accident driving home from a party in New Canaan on a snowy, icy night. Of course, we had been drinking, boyfriend was driving my car, and he suffered a pretty significant gash to his face. When police/ambulances came on the scene, they whisked us both to the hospital - where they apparently did a BAC on me by taking blood.
Fast forward 6 years (I'm in my my early-ish 30s) and I get a summons to appear in court on DUI charges for that accident. Apparently, in renovations to the NCPD, someone came across boxes of case files that had been stored in an attic. As I mentioned, I hadn't been driving the car - and because my boyfriend required plastic surgery to his face, I guess nobody ever bothered to draw his blood?
Anyway, we both wound up having to appear in court, and I had to get a lawyer (in a weird twist, someone recommended Mickey Sherman, so we wound up spending a lot of money for what was really an open/shut case) and testify in front of a JURY. And taxpayers had to pay for this circus.
The jury quickly found me not guilty - and a couple of months later, I bumped into the prosecutor, who confessed that she thought it was a ridiculous waste of time and money.
Yes. That’s a great comparison. This reminds me an awful lot of the Calvin and Michelle Harris case....
Life insurance or not, money probably plays a role here. That's a lot of money and seems her estranged husband has a history of not paying his debts. I wonder if she had a life insurance policy?
and who is the beneficiary? That's a lot of money and seems her estranged husband has a history of not paying his debts. I wonder if she had a life insurance policy?
You would think that given this divorce has been going on for awhile that key financial instruments such as life insurance would be checked and put into trust for the benefit of the children. As it doesn't seem the JD was part of the real estate business it seems unlikely that insurance would be part of the business or her husband as yesterday one of the articles stated that the STBX was sole shareholder of the real estate business. We just don't have much information about JD daily activities other than being primary caretaker of 5 young children. The annual income of JD disclosed in one the articles last night of over $400,000/yr. is also unclear as to whether its trust income or income from writing etc. The STBX seemed very protective of the real estate business based on some of the court documents I read and he fought hard to not disclose any financial information to the court as part of the divorce. But I have to say that I find it odd that JD parents lent sizable sums to STBX for his various real estate schemes and didn't seem to have any ownership stake in his company. At some point the documents from the litigation that is in process between JD mother and STBX will explain some of these issues but based on the little available to read on this topic now, it appears these sizable loans were fairly casual and he stopped paying back the money owed a couple of years ago and claimed the money was given as a 'gift'.and who is the beneficiary?
