New Canaan mom Jennifer Dulos is missing: What we know so far
pretty good summary of the case so far, IMO. I've read she has no credit card or phone activity after that Friday so that leads me to believe they have her phone records and perhaps cell phone pings - I don't know if they have pulled search warrants for anyone else. LE has gone silent it seems. I don't think this will have a good outcome and I wonder how the Judge will rule on custody with everything as it stands now. JMO

I would hope that the hearing will be postponed pending an understanding of why Jennifer is missing. No activity on phone and bank accounts suggests that she is no longer alive, but the custody hearing suggests that she has many reasons to live.

I can only hope the Judge has read about the Josh Powell case. JMO

Totally agree with all your points! But I truly wonder how much financial success the STBX had in the real estate business? It sounds like like he was bankrolled by JD family money and not supported by banks as is typically the case with real estate development. From the number of properties he looks to have developed over the past 5 years I'm not certain the lifestyle they enjoyed could have been supported by the real estate activities?! JMO. Even with being able to play the tax angles with cars and travel it seems to be a push to say he could support the family without JD family money and income.

The real estate market in CT regions where STBX operates has been soft at best for the past five years and the downturn hit the entire state hard. People still come into the area due to proximity and easy commute to NYC but property appreciation doesn't really exist and hasn't existed for a long time. GE and GE Credit were both large employers in the area and they left the state a few years ago and this hit lower Fairfield Country real estate hard. Diagio the large liquor and spirits company also employs many in the area and they are slated to leave or maybe have even left Norwalk.

Based on the number of properties he developed according to his corporate website I wonder if the real estate was something akin to a part time job versus a full time occupation? Just doing the rough math on the estimate profit from flipping 1-2 properties a year it wouldn't be sufficient to cover the private school, cars, trips etc. that seemed to be their lifestyle. So, unless he had family money on the level of JD family money I'm not seeing how the numbers add up? Obviously JD and her atty. had similar questions which is why there are so many documents related to financial disclosure on the court record. Any ideas?

I agree with all of this

After expanding their search for Jennifer Dulos to her parents’ property in Pound Ridge, N.Y., authorities were back in the Waveny Park area on Friday.

Police handed out flyers for about three hours in the area of Lapham Road behind Waveny Park where Dulos’ black Chevy Suburban was found last Friday night.

A source close to the investigation said divers planned to search the nearby shallow pond in Waveny Park.

Assuming this is going the way it seeems.. I really cannot understand these types of cases, especially someone who’s seemingly very well off despite his desperate attempts to show the court otherwise

What sounds better to you: Giving up half to your ex wife and still being able to live a long, happy life and see your kids and mistress/new GF, or spending life in a tiny cell with nothing until the day you die?

Just pure narcissism, much like Watts.

He doesn’t think he’ll get caught/he’ll try to flee, and barring that, will likely commit suicide before they can take him in. I realize he had to surrender his passport, but there are other ways to disappear

I'm not sure he did surrender his passport - the divorce stopped him from getting new ones for the children IIRC because of the threat to flee and hide the children. As another sleuther mentioned, you can have more than one passport. He may have a US and Greek and possibly Turkey ? JMO

Sounds like you might be thinking of the movie “Double Jeopardy” with Ashley Judd & Tommy Lee Jones.

The husband in the movie got his wife drunk while they both were on their sailboat. When she awoke, he was gone. There was blood all over and her husband gone. He had staged what appeared to be a death scene, made it look like his wife had killed him and then disappeared, running off to another state with his gf. She was charged with murdering him and spent 7 yrs in jail.

(Google it to get more info about the story... & why it’s called “Double Jeopardy”)

I went through a very long & very expensive CT divorce, also. We were living in a town close to New Canaan. I had been married for 4 yrs to my 2nd husband, also the sole owner of his contracting business.

I discovered he too had a gf. Within a few days after I confronted him, I was served divorce papers. He said I had to move out of our house and when I refused to, he went to court, obtained a restraining order stating I had threatened to harm him and his 12 yr old son while they were sleeping. Which I didn’t! I was too afraid of him to even argue with him, much less threaten him.

I received the restraining order on a cold January day, during the worst snow storm that year. My attorney called me at work and said I could not go home that night!

I stayed at a friend’s and the next day my sister told me to get & watch the movie “Double Jeopardy”. She advised that I be extremely careful, stay totally away from my house and him, because she was sure my STBX would stage a scene that he was hurt and I caused it, hoping I’d go to jail.

After I was finally able to go home to get some things, I had to have a police escort and I had 15 min to gather some clothes, and as much else as I could get.

There was evidence in our bedroom and bathroom that his gf had been staying there!

My divorce took 2 yrs, then went to trial. I could go on and on about the fear I had, what all he did to me & my sons, our cars, his lies about how his company wasn’t making money, his hiding money, how the attorneys kept prolonging the divorce and kept billing me, etc etc etc.

I was told that he hired a few of his guys from his company to flatten my car tires, and my sons’ on several occasions. In the end, my divorce ended up costing me much more than I was awarded. It was the worst thing I’ve ever gone through.

Anyway, enough about my CT divorce. I meant to just comment about the movie “Double Jeopardy”, but got carried away.

Jennifer Dulos’ case is bringing back so many memories of my being so scared of my then STBX.

I’m just so glad I didn’t have kids with my ex and didn’t go thru a custody battle with him.

ETA: The most devastating thing was how he lied during the trial and charmed the lady judge, with his fake charisma.

But then I had to remind myself how he charmed me, too! And so many others. So typical of a narcissistic, sociopathic creep.

Wow-so sorry you and your sons went through this! I hope you’ve found your happiness, finally

Google maps isn't updated in real time so far as I've seen. So, if he is doing a project and subdiving properties it is unlikely that Google has caught up. Some of the pictures on Google are 5+ years old. Usually Google will tell you when the picture you see online was taken. Google has some kind of rotating schedule to take pictures etc. that I don't understand but have run into this issue on other situations. The best bet is one of the real estate sites such as zillow to get a sense of newly developed properties. The towns will also have the subdivided property detail on file and most of it is online these days so you can figure out where the property is located.

I did not know. Thanks for this info. I also realized after I posted that there is a section on Zillow, "Neighborhood" and it does show each home location on the street. I would have deleted my post, but as I said, I thought I was on to something. I should have looked further on that Zillow page.

I agree, but like others here have said, he probably hired guys to hurt and do away with Jennifer, making sure he has alibis and witnesses to prove he was nowhere near New Canaan the day Jennifer went missing.

Farmington is quite always from New Canaan, approx 1.5 hrs away, up by Hartford towards Massachusetts. No way, in my opinion, would he do this himself.

But if you involve other people in your plans, they are a potential weak link in getting away with it. You’d have to really trust a person that you involved in this. I am guessing he did this himself, but had a “legitimate reason for being in Fairfield County that day.

Plus, even if Jennifer’s neighbors were home at the time, I doubt they’d see or hear anything.

The properties on her street are large, the houses are huge & set back from the road, hidden by tall trees/shrubs and have long driveways.

Yeah, I guarantee that no neighbors saw anything out of the ordinary going on there at the New Canaan house. But I wonder if anybody saw he car being dumped? You have a little less control of that.

Agree that FD may attempt to abscond.

This guy is never going to kill himself, though.
Ain't gonna' happen.

He thinks much too highly of himself to suicide.
His life is the only one that has any value to him.

Probably no coincidence he's so into waterskiing.
Narcissus loved water, too.
I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess at how many mirrors this guy has in his house.

JMO.

I wonder if her house has a security system, outside cameras etc. I would think under the circumstances she would be sure it was turned on.
Also, if she had just dropped the kids off at school, where was the nanny. The nanny is the one who drove the children to New City to their grandmothers. I wonder who told her to do that, JD's attorney?

Even just a trail camera (really cheap) would record people coming and going from the house-we have one in a tree where nobody would think to look for one, pointed at the front door and where we park our cars. I hope she had something like this or another type of device which could record the comings and goings into the house, so the police know who did this.

Yep. This is about vindictiveness and money. He could be vindictive and selfish for years, dragging out the divorce and making her life hell. But when she called attention to fishy financials.....she disappeared. I don't think that is a coincidence.

I don't rule out the role of a mistress as a potential perp/motive, but for now, I think this is about $$ and vindictiveness. My armchair opinion only. (And I hope the mistress is running away from this situation fast, if she is not involved.)

jmopinion at the moment.
I agree. The timing is too much of a coincidence. He probably thought his corporation was a safe place to stash his money, but her filing the contempt charge regarding his finances seems to be the last straw. MOO

Thinking about this for awhile makes me ask.
Why, if the blood in the home suggests she was killed or at least injured there, would he take her in daylight hours to a public park and park on the public road then carry her body into the park and dispose of it. How could he carry a body into that park in the middle of the day and not be seen? But, the police are back at the park again today so they must think she is there.
Or, she is buried somewhere nearer to her home and the car planted at the park, then why is LE back looking at the park today?
Other than the car, what brings LE back to Waveny Park?

I wonder if his new GF is willing to fund his lifestyle because it doesn't sound like he can do it on his own.

She was reported missing by two friends at 7 p.m. that night.
Sources: Police found blood in New Canaan home of Jennifer Dulos as search for missing mother intensifies

I wondered who reported her missing - this is the first i have seen. And the article details the business dealings between his father in law and the Fore Group. IMO this litigation and the divorce was bringing a lot of detailed financial dealings to the public.

BBM - not good for business at all. If it's a small community his professional reputation is seriously impacted with all of that becoming public.

Perhaps Jennifer had a plan for the nanny to follow. Even if she didn't expect to encounter foul play, as a "single" mom, she likely had a plan for the nanny in case of car accident or other delays - the nanny likely knew what to do if Jennifer didn't show up when she was supposed to. I'm grateful for that nanny!

jmo

Quite likely. If something happens to my husband and I (we work and travel together), we don't want certain people in his family to have access to our daughter. Because of this, in addition to having a trust for her, financial and physical guardians (and backups), we also provide her school with a list of emergency contacts and pickups and the order in which to call them. We specify who can pick up (normal), who can visit (normal), who can check her out of school, who will pay the tuition and any expenses relating to her being moved, etc. In the case of a divorce, esp where there is question of violence like this one, it is probable she had some similar instructions.
