GUILTY CT - Melissa Millan, 54, stabbed to death while jogging, Simsbury, 20 Nov 2014 *Arrest*

From the link:

The 27-year-old told police last week he killed Millan on Nov. 20, 2014, after attending a treatment meeting for sex offenders, the arrest warrant stated. Leverett, who is a registered sex offender stemming from a sexual assault conviction in Colorado, was “embarrassed and scared and figured that If I just killed somebody it would make all that go away and I wouldn’t have to explain myself.”

Leverett then spotted Millan, a 54-year-old mother of two and top executive at Mass Mutual, running on a popular trail in Simsbury and got “mentally aroused.” But he said he then felt anger thinking about how she was “way out of [his] league.”

“I went into a frenzy,” Leverett told police, according to the Hartford Courant.

Apparently, DNA collected at the murder scene. Why wasn't Leverett's DNA in the system from the Colorado conviction?

And yes, wondering, like another WS poster, if the local registered sex offenders were located and questioned in the beginning. Asking that now seems like it would have been a no-brainier, in hindsight, but if LE does not know who and why, wouldn't registered sex offenders have been a likely avenue to explore in the very beginning?

(I've been reading fast, my apologies if I missed pertinent information.)

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but did a search and didn’t see anything come up. Eerily reminds me of Mollie. It’s all over the CT news.

Thanks for moving this here! I have no idea why it didn’t come up in a site search.

Ugh, this motive makes so little sense. So very sad that she had to die because of this man's twisted thinking.

Is there evidence connecting him? Was there really DNA and does it match him? I'd feel a lot better if they could prove it was him without his confession....

So sad. Crazy it took so many years especially after he confessed.

I run/walk/bike a lot and this is my #1 fear…encountering a crazy person.
