So strange that the family would have waited so long to officially report him missing...he was just a kid. I'm wondering if there's some reason that they wanted this quiet?

Why was he in a limo? Was Samuel with other people? Did anybody noticed the limo? This last question i dont think can be answered due to the years that have passed.
Just some questions

I just wonder if by some miracle, he's this bank robber doe from Nevada.
Vitals are somewhat off. Byrd is approximately 5 inches taller than this doe, and 30 pounds heavier. They just look really similar to me. The doe's lips are a bit fuller and his eyebrows are more pronounced. But keep in mind, he was in a car crash and was flung from the vehicle at 100+mph.
Byrd's 22nd birthday was coincidentally 2 days before this doe's death.

45 Years After Disappearance Of Teen, New Haven Police Renew Call For Information

Police have renewed a call for information about a Connecticut man who disappeared shortly after his high school graduation 45 years ago.

Samuel Byrd was last seen in June 1977 after his graduation from Hamden High School, when he was 18 years old, the New Haven Police Department said in an announcement posted on Monday, Jan. 2.

None of the members of his family have heard from him since.

Police believe Byrd may have taken a limo from New Haven to an unknown location, which may have been the airport.

His family told police that Byrd had an interest in traveling to Georgia or Texas.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call police at 203-946-6304 ext. 1314 or call 911.

John Doe #UP99134 was found in Georgia and believed to have been in Connecticut at one point. However, he was found in 1994 (albeit a complete skeleton) and the age is unknown.
- A progress note from the Bridgeport Transitional Living Center was found in his pocket with the number #292-8304 on the back

Back in January, I asked the New Haven Police for the full case file on Samuel Byrd. A few days ago I was granted that and to my surprise it was only 5 pages long and really not much information. (Makes sense because its an active investigation). Anyway, the only thing noteworthy from it is that on February 18th of this year, their was a John Doe exclusion for him out of Delaware. His DNA is at the NCMEC.

Was the limo located? Why he was in a limo? Did he rent it to go to a party? In that case, was he alone in the vehicle?
The East Haven Marsh Wildlife Area is 3 milles away from the airport, may be an accident? May the car got submerged?

Limousine would mean a car service, rather than a more heavily populated area's taxi service. Eespecially to the airport as was the case, and typically a Lincoln Continental or similar at that time. So not a "limo" that prom kids are packed into or for celebrities arriving at the red carpet.

It only says to me he didn't have a ride otherwise and got a car service. But it also hints at a plan (especially if ordered for pickup somewhere other than his house; or to the house, but at a time when he knew no one was home) and obviously intent to go somewhere via plane or for a meet up.

Assuming it was considered a legitimate sighting, and without more info, I don't see any reason that he's not still alive (or was initially and died unrelated to the 'disappearance'). If he was late teens when he left and had had only cash-paying jobs (or none), he wouldn't necessarily have a SS# to track.

There's not enough detail to question a decades-late MP report. Perhaps family thought (or was told) it was filed when it hadn't been, maybe one member thought another member had filed it and vice versa, maybe LE wouldn't take a report for myriad reasons, or maybe family knew or figured he wanted to leave, was capable and possibly not close to his family, and that was that. As for why the 2014 report was filed, remaining family could have realized the earlier snafu. Or a relative not even born when he went missing who was curious after hearing stories about him or otherwise stumbling upon his existence.
