Identified! CT - Stonington (Ledyard), WhtFem UP8909, 18-30, JNHS 1917 Class Ring, Lady Clairol hair roller set, May'74 - Linda Sue Childers

I found this missing person on Namus and Charley Project. Her name is Elizabeth Franks and has been missing since 1965. She had red hair and her height matches the UID. She was 17 in 1965.

Her husband claims she left after he caught her with another man. Investigators believe he may be lying and may have murdered her, but what if he was telling the truth and she did indeed leave with another man? She had a young daughter, but she was incredibly young to be a wife and mother, perhaps she couldn't cope, especially if the marriage wasn't a happy one.

I am not sure that she looks massively like the composite drawings of the UID, but I don't think she looks enough 'not' like the drawings to rule out the match.

Why would we put the county when we can put the actual place (Stonington)? Saying it would be New London would be wrong, unless we said New London Co.

Well, currently it says Hartford, which is wrong.

Also, they were killed and found in Ledyard on Shewville Rd., not in Stonington or Noank. NAMUS is wrong when they have Lantern Hill Rd. in Stonington listed.

Jo Anne Lucille Civitelli is not our UID. She can be accounted for up to 2013. Married at some point, she appears in obits (not her own), and a pic as recent as 2013. Very little info but enough to know she is not the UID. She appears to still be alive so additional info will not be placed here but can be found with a little googling. Happy Sleuthing.

She escaped from prison in Michigan on September 17, 1970. That would have been just before Carmichael's October prison escape, if I have the timeline right. At first, I almost dismissed her because of her Michigan incarcination, but then I was reminded that Carmichael was active all over the country, not just in New England, AND Sylvia was originally from Florida.

Sadly, without DNA for this set of remains, it's going to be nearly impossible to make a match, unless the missing person has dental records available. That really stinks because it's nearly impossible to obtain 40 year old dental records, and that's if the MP even went to the dentist. I submitted Cornelia Enright months ago, but she has DNA and no dental.

It's an interesting thought. The only thing is that the Jane Doe expressed fears about having her new identity questioned. Like it was the first time she had needed one. Sylvia's profile in the Michigan system lists 10 aliases.

Sylvia Torgow is a very exciting possible, by far the best one suggested on this thread.

Given that she had been in prison and had been using a lot of different aliases, and all at the tender age of 18 - she certainly sounds like Carmichael's kind of girl.

Ok now I did have a question.. if they were found in 1974 in a swamp.. how did her clothes look so good and in tact.. that is the part I was trying to figure out?

The clothes and rollers were intact because they were given to a girlfriend/wife (I can't remember which) of one of the killers. They were recovered in her home during the investigation into the deaths of Doe.

Britten doesn't look a lot like the sketch of our UID and is heavier, but the sketch could be off and maybe she lost weight (I would think the weight estimate would be pretty close to accurate since they did have the UID's clothes).

I just thought Niki might be, since her mother had moved to Pennsylvania and the doe had calls to PA.. also I thought of her last phone call to her family she said she was working in NY and the doe was thought to have worked in NY..and I was thinking if she was on her own possibly would of lost the weight.. I thought maybe the short hair... then I was thinking the Ring.. at first glance it looks like to me B$N and I thought of Niki Britten... her initials..
