Your right, I didn't even think of that! Brains in shock over #47s actions last night! #47 just needs to say the word and those poor Cubans in Miami will form a boat Brigada and take over Cuba for him! Hopefully he'll let them come back? IMO

I so wish I could talk about Cuba without the conversation instantly becoming political. I’ve lost "friends" over it, even though I genuinely understand both perspectives... But for many you’re either on one side or the other.

If there is such a thing as a “friendly takeover” in politics, let it be one that brings medicines for everyone, invests in the economy, rebuilds infrastructures, restores equality and ensures oil reaches Cuba “para que nunca falte el azúcar.”

My concern is for those who don’t like the idea, who appear to be the majority, based on all the comments I’ve read so far. I don’t think Cuba will become a U.S. state... At least in the near future. MOO JMO

The Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that the suspects of Cuban origin remain in pretrial detention, adding that it will ensure “due process” as it continues to act “in defense of our people and the country’s institutions.”

Chief prosecutor Edward Robert Campbell has told The Associated Press that terrorism charges carry a possible sentence of up to 30 years in prison or even the death penalty, although Cuba has maintained a moratorium on the latter since 2003.

They said he died from his injuries on Wednesday.

At least Cuba tried with the injured, more than we did with the supposed "drug smugglers " from Venezuela. IMO

Thanks for the link, but I know what a colony is. I just don’t see how Cuba, a sovereign country, could become one. That would violate international law. MOO JMO

Who would protect Cuba's sovereignity? There are always ways to get round pesky international laws.

Seems the states want to dominate Cuba, so am guessing a ‘dependency’ would suit them.
Not sure why the administration thinks it has a right to take what ever they fancy though

RE - Discussion of colonization of Cuba:
From my understanding of colonization, a foreign government would need to achieve sovereignty of the island, take complete political control, and achieve population dominance (by settling). Does that appear possible?

I lived in Miami 1/2 my life and was always fascinated with Cuba. I remember when neighbors where building bomb shelters during the missile crisis and being upset my dad didn't think it was necessary to build one. Whatever happens with Cuba I hope it's in the country's best interest and that it finally opens it up for US visitors. Families can freely travel back and forth, without going to another country first. I have always wanted to visit, and I will when they're ready!
