Dakota Fanning movie blasted for her rape scene

I hope that doesn't happen, Martha. That said, I truly believe that Dakota has a different kind of family structure than LL and Britney did- and I think that makes all the difference in the world in her formative years.

Oh, so you agree with her family letting her do the scene? I thought Britney had an OK family, but she sure is messed up now.

Cerainly, I wish her luck.

This is why Dakota in a few years will be running around and acting like Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears - drunk, drugged, wild and who knows what else.

Because none of them ever had a chance to have a normal childhood or adolescence, and deep down it was "all about the parents". The filmakers and parents should be prosecuted for child abuse. IMO

AMEN Martha!!!!

I didn't say that I agree with Dakota doing that scene.

Regarding Britney: I think Britney's authority figures screwed up when she filmed her "Baby One More Time" video...she was sexualized to the max. Britney's video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDrGyA3ZtnQ There's no way in hell my daughter would strut around with her shirt open like that. Britney was pretty young when that was shot, too.

I have a soft spot for Britney for some reason. I still hold out hope she'll get it together.

Idaho and all,

I guess I'm making my opinion on this based on how 'I' parent my daughter. Ask yourselves this: As a little girl did you play 'I get rapred'? NO WAY!! Sure we played teacher, store, tag, princess and bride, heck we played tie me up games to see if we could get out (all in fun) BUT NO WAY DID SOMETHING LIKE RAPE EVER ENTER MY MIND. Now as for my daughter if I saw her or her friends display the kind of imagination that would lead to acting out a rape I'd be deeply troubled. What is wrong with us that getting a little girl to do this is ok???

Thank-you Juliann for agreeing with what I posted earlier about the counselling and the fact this is not a documentary it's a Hollywood movie made for $$$, you expressed those points of view more eloqent than myself.

You want to watch it? Go ahead, just know that joining you will be scads of pedophiles enjoying all that artistic expression.

PS Idaho, I didn't mean to sound like I was railing against you, I hope you don't feel that way.

I hope that's not the case. I've seen Dakota on Leno, and she seems to be incredibly intelligent and mature for her age. Britney was dumb from the get go.

Can someone please point out where I said the rape scene is OK? I didn't! All I said was I think Dakota has a more stabile home life than some other girls' whose names have been mentioned here. I was attempting to show (obviously, unsuccessfully) that I feel there is a correlation between unstable home lives and the destructive behavior we're seeing in Lindsay Lohan, for instance. I was NOT saying that because Dakota has what APPEARS to be a stabile home life she should do a rape scene. I wouldn't think it's ok for my daughter, so why would I think it's cool for someone else's?

I even said I thought Britney was unneccessarily sexualized at a young age.

I just refuse to say that Dakota's headed for the trash heap because of this.

Scads of pediphiles also enjoy the artistic expression of Charlotte's Web, Willy Wonka and any other number of movies featuring child actors, but I still plan to keep enjoying those movies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, many pedophiles prefer fantasizing about children in an innocent, non-sexualized environment. They are not one-size-fits-all perverts.

Should we stop children from being in the media in any form or fashion just because someone might be titillated by that?

I agree that Dakota is incredibly talented, smart & mature for her age.

I agree that she is becoming a young lady and isn't a little girl anymore, a'la The Cat in the Hat. But I think better roles could be found for her, as a young teen, that don't require violent sex scenes, however "tastefully" done.

I agree that rape and sex abuse sadly happens to children every day. It's not "tasteful", though, no matter how you look at it in real life, and should not be glorified on the screen, IMO.

And I would never want or allow a pubescent daughter of mine to appear in such.

Up to now, I believed Dakota was being raised correctly in the Hollywood scene. Now, I'm not so sure.

wow, that's quite a bold statement to make....been in the future predicting business long, or do your psychic ability's come naturally? I think the ugly way people are talking about the future of a 12 year old girl whom they have never interacted with far trumps a make believe scene in a movie. Dakota was ACTING, how do people explain the hurtful and terrible things they are openly saying about her and her parents(whom they have also never met) here?
No one here knows a hill of beans about wether or not Dakota will be a drunk partier. No one here has any idea that her parents are using her to support their family. No one here has even seen the movie and they have willingly served her and her family up as barbecue for the burning.
I am amazed at the lengths people will go to prove a point and get their side of the argument acrossed. But, I will say, predicting this lovely young lady is destined to turn out like Lohan and spears because of a movie role that they haven't laid eyes on is a new level of hypocracy aken to picking on the little kid at school.
Shame on the adults here who have resorted to calling a 12 yr old and her parents names!

If history is any indication of future behavior, I'd say those who are worried about this girl's future are probably true. I hope not, but once she's outlived her usefulness and can't bring in the bucks, the stuidio will dump her and not care where she lands.

Here is another article about the movie. The Wilmington District Attorney was shown the movie and here is what he had to say:

"But the Wilmington district attorney, who was shown a cut of the movie, said no crime was committed, and the film’s writer and director, Deborah Kampmeier, said Ms. Fanning was treated more than appropriately: Though her character, Lewellen, disrobes under duress, for example, she is not seen nude, and Ms. Fanning was always clothed during the production."

With all due respect, I was just providing another article regarding this controversial subject. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind either way.

Tell him I said thanks!~ Believe me, nothing would please me more than to see 10 years from now that she's a well-adjusted normal young woman. I think if she finishes school and goes on to college, she's got a far better chance in making a real life for herself than if she relies solely on her career.

You didn't and I should have worded my post better to reflect that. You had quoted me a couple posts back so I addressed you and never did make the point I agreed with you about Brit... then I got all heated up about Df. Many sincere apologies. :slap: <--me.

Yeah that's why all the intrenet child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 right? That's why we turn on the news and we see more and more little girls are being snatched out of their beds and being found murdered and raped because all the warm fuzzy pedophiles prefer to just imagine the whole thing while watching Charlottes Web!!!

I wouldn't want my child to act this, I wouldn't want ANY child to act this, I have no desire to see this, I can't imagine anyone who would. I think it will be a huge draw for pedophiles and I don't want them to see it.

See, not really a one size probelm I have with it.

Oh and I have no doubt there are kids growing up just fine in Hollywood as there are most likely a few kids around here that will get messed up.... why tip the odds against them?

I feel very strongly about this, I don't mean to take away your rights though.

Child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 has been around forever. The internet just makes it more accessible to those who have an interest in it. Children have been snatched, raped and murdered forever. We're just so plugged in today that we hear about (almost) every case in real time detail.

I'm hard-pressed to believe that any pedophile who is progressed enough to watch genuine child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 would be sufficiently aroused by a 10-second shot of Dakota's struggling terrorized face to be truly "drawn" to this film. Neither am I naive enough to think that some pedophiles won't be. I'm just of the opinion that pedophiles are probably drawn to lots of films that I might have an interest in.

I think child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 is extremely dangerous in the escalation of a pedophile's probability in acting out and harming a child. I don't think a film that contains the sexual assault of a young girl as part of a larger story is. This is just my opinion. I am deeply respectful of your differing opinion. I have no desire to change anyone's mind about it

I have asked before on this thread, but no one has responded - why was there no outrage over John Grisham's A Time to Kill (book and movie) which began with the gang rape of a 10-year-old girl? The father of the girl murdered the two arrested men on the courthouse steps and the rest of the story deals with the aftermath of that event. The book was a runaway bestseller. The movie was a huge hit.

In my opinion, it was a compelling and beautiful story which addressed a number of important issues - and yet, at its core, was the rape of a young girl. Should the story not have been told because of that subject matter? I personally am glad that it was.

I don't know if Houndog will be a story worth telling, but maybe it will. I'm not willing to dismiss it just yet.
