David Bowie - Happy 65th Birthday Sunday 08 January

  • #121
Sending this one out to all Bolan / T. Rex fanatics as Marc B. would have turned 65 this 30 September - born in the same year as Bowie, then. Am attempting to turn thread into glam rock appreciation society.

T.Rex " The Slider " - YouTube

AWESOME!

I'm a rock and roll junkie. I loooove to go on adventures on the internet between youtube, wiki and in the last couple of days here watching, listening and learning about the artists, in influence they've has on one another, the way the art has influenced us normies :) etc.

Maybe I'm more of a rock and roll geek as much time as I spend explore, thinking about and captivated by it. :) You all don't even know how cool it is to see what is the most significant to people that were there.... its like with the "All The Young Dudes" stuff, I'd never heard of that and learning about it added to my appreciation of Bowie, rock and roll etc.

David Bowie 65th birthday: Why glam rock legend is content to have retired from the limelight

snip-
It is thought Bowie – real name David Robert Jones – has not written a new song in nine years.

“He’s no longer interested,” says a friend. “His days are very sedate. He reads a lot, he watches movies, he paints. He picks up his daughter from school most days and has a great air of contentment.

“He has nothing to prove and living a normal, functioning life for the first time is – to him – very exotic and attractive.

“Nobody worked and played harder than David. He feels he’s earned the right to do exactly as he pleases.” Last month lost footage of Bowie performing The Jean Genie on Top Of The Pops resurfaced after 38 years.

While he champions new bands like Arcade Fire and TV On The Radio and enjoys classical concerts at New York’s Lincoln Center, music is no longer a critical part of his life. His first public piece of creative activity in a decade will be in October when he publishes Bowie Object, a typically quirky project.

He has chosen 100 significant objects from his life which will be photographed and accompanied by his text on why there were an influence. A Bowiesque twist on the autobiography concept.

The great Nick Lowe's two mock-tribute efforts, laced with a sort of bubble-glam, deliciously twee, and dedicated to the boy band of the time - the Bay City Rollers:

Speaking of GE: They've been doinittoit for 50 years now, and they can still put on a heluva show.

Exhibit A.....1985:

Exhibit B......2006:

And they still tour in Europe on a regular basis. If you haven't checked out their body of work, do yourself a favor and do so!

This is from 5 years ago, wonder what happened to 21? Thanks everyone for reminding me of Bowie's great music, and metamorphosing appearances throughout the years. He really did love to slap you, the audience, in the face. Love it!
