It's a start in the right direction to acknowledge the problem. It may be genetic, it runs in his family. His father Jack had alcohol problems.I read the CNN article above. I don't think he's quite where he needs to be in this recovery journey, re: talking a lot about how wonderful he is, how moral he is, how many people he's helped, how he has an allergy to alcohol and how he didn't start drinking until 2002.
All of the above may be true, but all of the above are statements that sort of mitigate responsibility IMO. In my experience, when people are really ready to stop drinking, those sort of statements are no longer part of the equation.
Hope I'm wrong. I wish him well.
P.S. He was my teen idol too! Loved the long hair and his face and voice. "I Think I Love You" was my ringtone for awhile.
