Family and friends do not know where they might have gone and camping is out of character for Dawna. There are concerns for the safety of both Dawna and Gabby.

In this case "located" is a sad outcome. They were both found deceased in an apparent murder / suicide.

All I feel in this case is compassion for all involved. I wish obviously it had ended differently, even as it’s clear that there were tremendous stressors and compounded pain.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office said the van was located northwest of Drewsey, Ore. after ranch workers found the vehicle Thursday at about 1 p.m.

"It's obviously a tragedy and a travesty. I think the bigger issue is mental illness in this country right now and services we need to provide for mentally ill people. And obviously mental illness probably played a factor in this, but unfortunately the police have a tough job and they can't save everyone," said Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram.

As to why an endangered missing persons alert wasn't triggered, Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram says, "to the best of my knowledge, they were going on a camping trip and the mother had a history of mental illness but nothing that specifically said that she was gonna put themselves in danger."

“My mom loved Gabby, she absolutely did,” Gabrielle’s sister Mariah Villesca told KTVB. “My mom had six children and Gabrielle was the favorite. So many people thought this would never happen because of how much my mom loved Gabby. So many people didn’t listen to how severe things were. If somebody’s ill, you know, they can appear lucid. You don’t know what’s going on in their mind.”
