There is also another unsolved homicide in Suitland - a case that has been open for over a year. It involved the murder of two women (grandmothers) who ran a small flower shop off Suitland Road. They were both shot in the shop. Another case of senseless violence.
And arrest has been made in the case of the murder of these two women, after a long investigation. Although there is probably no connection, perhaps a resolution of Mr. Washington's case will follow.

Last month marked the five year anniversary since Benjamin Washington's murder. To my knowledge it remains unsolved. Has anyone seen or heard anything new regarding the investigation?

Benjamin Washington Jr. – “left out in the cold”

According to Prince George’s County Police, officers found Washington at about one o’clock in the morning in the 5300 block of Woodacres Drive in Suitland, Maryland.

He had been shot several times. His sister says he was hit in the head, the chest, and other parts of his body.

Detective Sgt. Robert Simpson says investigators believe that Washington was not killed at the location where he was found.

He says that there was no evidence at the scene that matched the injuries to the victim, and no one in the neighborhood reported hearing gunshots or any disturbance before his body was found.

In fact, Detective Simpson says, witnesses say that Washington was seen in the District, that night, near 47th Street and Sheriff Road, Northeast.

And, police say, a witness heard “what sounded like three gunshots” in that area about 11 P.M. or Midnight, an hour or two before Washington’s body was found in Maryland.

Investigators say that Washington’s friends have been uncooperative and that they cannot be sure of the exact location of his murder or what the motive might have been.

Renee Green, Washington’s sister, says, “Whatever my brother was involved in, whether it was drug related or not, this is inhuman and heartless…”

She says it was a “very violent, hateful, and ambush” killing.

How sad for this family. They need justice and closure. May they find peace in good time.
