QUOTE=colette;11528598]When I looked on Craigslist/DC there were so many ads for a "hook-up" in just one day it was unbelievable. Many were being "hosted" in hotel rooms around the city. I saw some that said something like "just come in, the door will be unlocked and I will be ready". Now I don't know if someone can leave a hotel door unlocked and ready like that, but it shows how easily a person can become a victim.[/QUOTE]

That's scary stuff!

You know, as an aside, it's threads like this that makes me appreciate my hubby and our simple lifestyle all the more.....

Yes, same here. As long as the hosts don't remind me of "Psycho", we've found B&B's to be nicer and safer, on family vacations to be precise, for the cynical.

• David Messerschmitt, 30, was identified as the man who was stabbed and killed Tuesday, February 10th, inside of a hotel room in downtown DC. Police have released a video of a person of interest in the homicide and authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

• So far this year, DC police have arrested more than 50 individuals connected to prostitution in the Thomas Circle area alone. This is the result of an ongoing effort to arrest people who are using the Internet to search for prostitutes in the District.

Interesting.

IMO The POI is dressed appropriately for DC in February. As for anyone noticing him lurking around, the entrance does not appear to be the main entrance, IMO. You would expect to see more people around dinner time walking in/out of a hotel.

Just had a thought - could this person have worked at a nearby hotel or restaurant (the shoes look like workers shoes to me, maybe the pants, too). So if he or she didn't use the main entrance, may not have looked all that suspicious to others. It's a very fancy hotel, if you come in the front door, you should look like you belong there - a little dressed up, IMO.

Happy, I agree that someone would recognize the POI. Probably a local worker. Either in local hotel, restaurant or in the sex industry.

As for his attire, many times when I travel for business and especially in cold climates, I dress comfortably and warm. The POI's clothing do not set off alarms, for me. Also, if he did not use the main entrance (IMO) no one would notice him (other than the surveillance cameras).

It's not the outfit itself that's suspicious, the POI's action are, as such the outfit, the POI's movement, becomes cause for speculation, for me.

Interesting.

Yes, very. What do you make of it?

Have they checked out people who work at the hotel where the crime occurred?

yes, however... im my experience, there are tons of tourists walking by - many of whom are unfamiliar with DC and try to walk to different sites and coming back from the White House to Thomas Circle is a slow but substantial climb. It is around Thomas Circle where they stop for bathroom, the CVS, whatever. Also there are tons of taxi drivers who have made relationships with folks in hotels and imo the perp looks like he or she could look like a taxi driver. or a doorperson from a neighboring hotel. DC is such a service oriented town that the perp could have been or looked like anyone in so many fields.

Makes sense, thanks for the on the ground perspective there.

IMO the police probably know who this is. I think we've been given a few hints-ie a woman has been interviewed, and the comment that 2 people close to the investigation are going on the theory that this is a woman. I am reminded of the movie "Heathers" in which the killers plant mineral water and a Joan Crawford book on the jocks to make it look like they were gay. I'm surprised a Judy Garland album wasn't left behind. I think one of the most obvious reasons a young, married person might be in a hotel is because of marital discord. Whether is is someone taking advantage of this, or the cause of it remains to be seen. Hopefully, there's an arrest soon.

Did I miss where it said a woman has been interviewed?

I missed that, too. Anyone know if David's wife was completely in the dark? It could be marital discord, as you say, or just that he wanted to be with someone different (young, male/female??). If the killer just took his cash, that would say a stranger; otherwise, I feel it may be somebody who wanted him out of the picture (jealousy, anger..the usual reasons). So sad for his parents.

Thanks, Dushi! I went looking for that statement and couldn't find it. lol I was just going to delete my comment after completely questioning both my sanity and sleuthing skills.
