Hi All,

I could not find a better matching general forum for this. Please let me know where to move this to, if necessary.

I work in Psychiatry (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) and this just breaks my heart! I am afraid that Master Sgt. Marckesano is another victim of stigma and a mental health system that completely failed him.

I researched and learned that he was part of the elite 82nd Airborne Division and reportedly never got past his 2009 tour in Afghanistan’s Arghandab Valley with the 2-508 battalion, which had one of the highest mortality rates in the war.

Marckesano’s suicide was the 30th from this battalion. He is one of an estimated 20 combat veterans who are killing themselves every day, according to military statistics.

He killed himself in front of his wife and leaves 3 small children behind. He was still active duty and just took a coveted position in the Pentagon.

What can we do? Vets and active duty - How can we help you best?

As always, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE! We appreciate you!!!!

I know i am forgetting so many....

I reported post to mod. Just seems wrong to have this topic under "Entertainment and Celebrity News"...

@NoSI and please know my mod note below is in NO way directed at you. After having been around the block a few times around here, I spot the potential for this to devolve into politics and want to give everyone a warning from the get go so the thread won’t have to be shut down.

I saw your alert and I think the Up to the Minute forum may be a more appropriate place for this thread, so I am going to move it with a redirect.

As for for threads appropriateness, I see no reason why this cannot be discussed here!!

Mod note: as always, politicizing the discussion around this sensitive subject is forbidden and violates WS terms of service and violations will be handled just as they are on any other thread.

Thank you so much! I don't mean to politicize this at all. I want to see how i can advocate effectively for our vets and soldiers in my role working in the mental health setting. There are so many smart people on WS... it could make a difference. We have to do everything we can to help them. It's the least we can do.
