In a video published to social media Sunday, a woman who identified herself as the baby’s mother said she put her son in the trash. Claiming to have fallen asleep with Kyon, she indicated she rolled over and then noticed he was unresponsive.

The woman said she panicked, got a blanket and his car seat, wrapped it up and put Kyon in the trash.

8News was not given permission to share the video where the admission was made.

8News has also chosen not to share the woman’s name, because police have not formally announced any charges.

Investigators believe the little boy's body has been dumped and are dumpster diving and trash sifting at several landfills that accept DC Metro trash, Crime Insider Sources told Jon Burkett.

They're also searching in trash trucks and piles in Northern Virginia.

[...]

"At this time, the child has not been located," Charles City County Sheriff’s wrote in a statement on the case.

As a chopper buzzed overheard Monday, to get an aerial view of the landfill, deputies tell us so far the search yielded no clues, with no word on if they'll search again Tuesday.

Wow. I am going to pray that the landfill keeps decent records on where trash loads end up once inside the landfill. Even with a decent system, it's an insanely difficult task for the investigators. I had no idea they were trucking the District's trash that far away. It's a couple hours from D.C.

IMO

there is so much disconnect with mom and baby. Why didn't anyone else see it? She calls him it, wrapped it up, put it in the trash.
I am sorry baby Kyon, you deserve so much more

I would be interested to know the living situation of this family. Articles have indicated that Kyon has siblings. It sounds like the mom was familiar enough with CFS to initially claim they came and took the baby. If that is the case, it really does make you wonder how no one noticed something was off.

Can I just say after I had my daughter, I would have nightmares that she would fall off my chest, where she was resting. I was 19 and exhausted. After 3-4 nights waking up in terror that I had dropped her, I would get up and take her to the living room for middle of the night feedings. It would wake me enough to not fall asleep while I was holding her. It was sooo terrifying, I was sure I had her, but apparently I had put her in her crib, then gone back to bed.

I think if things did happen like she says, she probably felt relieved at finding him dead, and just reacted. Not excusing her, but it does appear that she hasn't bonded with Kyon.

NEW: DC Police Chief Robert Contee says missing 2-month-old Kyon Jones' mother remains only person of interest in his disappearance. He says there's video of the baby's mother throwing something away in a trash can, unclear what is. He says the landfill search will wrap up today

Chief Contee says the mother could be facing charges. He says there will hopefully be a resolution in the case soon and they are continuing to work with the family. Contee says he remains hopeful the child is somewhere out there and doing all they can to find him. @wusa9
