'The father-of-three’s roommate found his lifeless body in their ransacked Quincy Street apartment on June 1, 1981.The Rhode Island native had spent more than a decade working as an administrative assistant for Sen. Claiborne Pell following a stint at The Providence Journal.'
'Though his father was known for being outgoing and friendly, Marc said he struggled with alcoholism. Raymond also came out as gay after separating from Marc’s mother when he was 9 years old.'
“There were no signs of forced entry into his apartment,” Marc said. “There were signs of a struggle, of course, but instead of being shot or stabbed like you would expect in some kind of break-in or a robbery … he was hit over his head with a typewriter.”
“I thought of that as basically being a message that he may have known some information about some powerful people that they didn’t want to get out,” he added.''
Marc Nelson was only 14 years old when his father was murdered in cold blood. Now 58 years old, he will never forget the last time he saw his father — prominent Capitol Hill staffer Raymond Nelson — alive.
