Murdered 31 December 1974

Article from New York Times 2 January 1975:

WASHINGTON, Jan. 1—South Trimble Jr., a 78‐year‐old Washington lawyer who headed the Senate Commerce Committee's staff investigation of the crash of the Zeppelin Hindenburg in 1933, was fatally shot last night in an apparent robbery attempt in the garage or his northwest Washington apartment complex. (In the 3000 block of Tilden Street, NW)

The Washington Star‐News stated:

The police said that Mr. Trimble was pronounced dead at DC. General Hospital shortly after the shooting at 9:15 P.M.

After parking his car, Mr. Trimble was apparently approached in what the police believe was a robbery attempt and was shot once in the chest. The gunman fled on foot, leaving him on the floor.

Mr. Trimble was a former chairman of the advisory board to the Inland Waterways Corporation in the Truman Administration. He was the son of South Trimble, a 12‐term clerk of the House of Representatives.
