Woman stabbed to death near Logan Circle, police say

WASHINGTON - A woman was stabbed to death in Logan Circle late Tuesday evening in what appears to be a random attack, according to authorities.

DC police said the woman was out for a jog just before 8 p.m. at 11th and O streets, Northwest when the attack happened.

Detectives said the woman, who was identified as 35-year-old Wendy Martinez of Northwest, stumbled into Asian American Chinese & American Food, a nearby carry-out restaurant, where she collapsed.

What a horrendous tragedy. Wendy's fiance and family must be going through hell. Hopefully someone recognises the perpetrators bright clothing and helps police.

This is just awful. I am horrified at the circumstances. Such a bright light snuffed out, in a seemingly random attack. In the video of the POI, he seems to walking with an unusual gait. That would be notable, along with the yellow colored shirt he was wearing. But wouldn’t he have blood on him, and wouldn’t that be obvious on that bright colored shirt? I pray this is solved soon. What a terrible nightmare for Wendy’s family and friends. They must be devastated, especially her fiancé of just one week. This should NOT have happened.

I just now looked at the video of the person of interest and my very first impression is that this really could be a woman. There is something in the gait, build and just general body language that says female. Just my opinion. Could be wrong, of course.

That could very well be what is causing his/her left arm to be hanging there, not a part of a natural walking movement. The right arm is swinging in an exaggerated way, which makes the gait look odd. Something is off about this person, male or female. With the random nature of this crime, there is great risk to the public until this person is caught.

A bit more info here, including video from the restaurant Wendy stumbled into for help. Bless her, she is blurred out from the video, but the reaction of the other people in the eatery is obvious. At least 2 are horrified by what they see and bolt from the eatery.

This story has video of Wendy jogging just before it happened. There are people on the street in both videos, and surely there are many more who were in the vicinity. There HAS to be an arrest soon! How in the world could something like this happen?

Police initially said they were looking for as many as three men in connection to the stabbing, but at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Newsham said investigators believe she was attacked by a single man.

I cannot even imagine what her last thoughts and moments were. The CCTV clip of her running, she looked like she was in her zone- just an ordinary chilled out run. And then cut to the Restaurant. The confusion and horror is so evident on the other patrons. And even though the image of her is heavily blurred, I’d guess she was in severe shock and distress.

I’m so thankful a suspect has been arrested. But poor her- and her family, friends and loved ones.

Incomprehensible.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham identified the suspect as Anthony Crawford, 23, of Northwest, who has been charged with first-degree murder while armed.
