Suspected human remains found in Gumboro last week were located in the same area a missing man was last seen 10 years earlier.

Police confirmed the discovery Jan. 22 after maintaining a weeklong presence on R Farm Lane. The remains have been turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for identification and to determine manner of death.

Police have yet to announce any link in the cases.

John Douglas Wisniewski Sr., then 45, was last seen at his home on R Farm Lane at about 1 a.m. Jan. 24, 2011, according to a Delaware State Police press release at the time. He is still listed as missing in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Wisniewski had three tattoos: "13" on his right middle finger, "13" on his right bicep and a monochromatic skull and crossbones with flames on the inside of his right forearm.

R Farm Lane is a private dirt road. It's hard to get a clear view from neighboring properties due to trees and briars, but at least two trailers and a house missing a door and windows are visible. One of the trailers had a light on inside Jan. 14.

BACKSTORY: Gumboro residents want answers to weeklong police activity down dirt road

Suspected human remains found in Gumboro after multi-day search: police
Police had been on the R Farm Lane property for more than a week. On Jan. 21, a Delaware Department of Transportation truck towed an industrial light down the road, out of sight, and then left without it. Three trucks marked “forensics” showed up and parked north of R Farms Lane on Westwoods Road.

“a parade of unmarked SUVs, state police, trailers with Bobcats on the back — like digging equipment” that came to the dirt lane Jan. 14.

From Jan. 16 through Wednesday, state police responded to Delmarva Now questions saying there was an "active and ongoing investigation," furthering the frustration of neighbors who were told there is "no threat to public safety."

The night of Jan. 13, Tingle noticed a helicopter spotlighting the woods around R Farm Lane. The next morning, there was “a parade of unmarked SUVs, state police, trailers with Bobcats on the back — like digging equipment,” she said. Some of the vehicles parked on Westwoods Road, but most entered R Farm Lane, according to Tingle. Vehicles were steadily coming in and out of the road Jan. 14 and 15, including at least one with a DelDOT logo, she said.

The property surrounding R Farm Lane is owned by R. S. of Wilmington. He said he bought it about five years ago and has been in court trying to get squatters off the land ever since.
Trash litters the property, including old cars and appliances. There are at least eight large dogs on the property, in makeshift pens, on chains and roaming loose.

Wondering if that much equipment, and DelDot and a helicopter would be needed if they found human remains of one person?

Hoping it's not John, but if it is are there others there?

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about that, @Filly. You're right...that's a lot of machinery to use to find one set of remains, esp. "trailers with bobcats"--plural?!? I wonder what brought LE to that location?

Right?

Exact thing I wondered, Ya Ya. Why is the law suddenly calling on Bobcat land? The Real Estate guy who purchased land around it has been to court even to have these folks removed.

Gotta find out why they turned out. Heck. The town folks wanna know. Seems like quite the place this Gumboro.

An industrial light was towed out of sight and then left. Later forensics showed up.

Those residents are about over it and want answers if ya ask me. A week of all that going on? Phew.

Ummmm, Ya Ya after reading it again our bobcats are not their bobcats. At least in my mind. It's machine bobcats. Although there's some mean old dogs back there.

Something is up. JMO. If Doug is included it's very sad. That's a long time.

lol...yeah, I hadn't thought about real, live bobcats. I imagined something along the lines of the bobcat shown below. Multiple bobcats have me wondering if they're dealing with removing garbage & debris, a deranged serial killer, or heroin dealer who buries his "testers" (not sure what to call the druggies who test new batches of heroin). Either way, it's a sad situation out there.

*Disclaimer for mods* I have no association with the special financing deal...I just needed a pic.* :D:p
