Identified! DE - Wilmington, WhtMale 1399UMDE, 45-55, In Christina Rvr, Jul'97 - Franklin McClellan

As a general rule I do not post cases in a public forum and rarely comment. However, I am closing out most of my files on missing/unidentified that are not part of requested research by agencies or individuals. I am working and attending university so something has to give and unfortunately it some of my case load. I will post a few here that do not fall in the categories mentioned above.

I believe that John Thistlewood is possibly the unidentified person who is the subject of this thread, found in DE. I have sent my infortmation to Hal Brown nd now wait on the scientific comparison.

My research shows him in the approximate area at the time this UP was found. I also made my comparison with the actual post mortem photo with the assistance of a professional who specializes in the study of photo images. For me it is easier than comparing with several reconstructions. However, I cannot post the postmortem image here.

Thoughts?

Hi BaxterDE42!
Have you ever heard back on whether or not John Thistlewood is a match? I'm definitely not an expert, but I agree that the PM photo of the UID resembles Thistlewood. One possible hurdle in confirming the match may be that Thistlewood appears to have no DNA or dental records in the system. Has anyone been contacted in regards to this? It seems very unusual not to have this info entered.

No new ruleouts on the Namus listing, and Mr. Thistlewood's listing is still available.

There are lots of cases, especially older ones, where there's very little in the way of identifiers. It's sad...

That's a pretty gruesome PM photo--poor guy. Carl did an excellent job creating a more palatable depiction.

I can see the resemblance to John Thistlewood. He's still not on the rule-out list, but Linda Grimm is still there. I know it was probably flagged as a potential match because of the teeth, but wouldn't it automatically say "Different genders"? I'm still learning at this!

Wrong quote, sorry guys. Carl's renderings are so spot on. I was surprised when the first one submitted was not a match.

Unless they have DNA (which the Namus profile indicates is still being processed), male or female is just a guess, and we've had several cases where the initial estimate was wrong. So I guess they were just being super thorough.

I clicked on the link for doenetwork, it took me to the correct page which says "identified". Don't they provide any additional info on who he was & his story? I'm glad he was identified, especially after all these years, but disappointed.
