The defense is going to ask for more money for testing:

snipped:

Casey’s lawyers want a new round of testing at taxpayer expense. Defense attorney Jose Baez claims his experts have made some discoveries over the last two days and he will to ask Chief Judge Belvin Perry to allow defense testing of the items in question.

Defense testing of evidence is not unusual, but in this case, the taxpayers would pay for it.

http://www.wftv.com/news/24253362/detail.html

No surprise here. This was obviously part of the game plan ahead of this event, to look and identify some items for further testing and a basis for it.

It provides additional legitimacy to the Defense claims and allows the experts to spin the results of THEIR selective testing -- differently than those of the SA experts --- rather than re-interpreting SA expert testing from reports.

It is mandatory for the Defense to do some of their OWN testing and have their own analysis and results with report.

This is THE list we want to see, not so much what was examined because it is where they will try to spin and split hairs (pun intended) on anything that implicates KC. They need to concede homicide but exclude KC unless they are going accidental.

Crazy question, but since some of the experts in question are not yet on the defense witness list, yet they have been publicly shown the evidence for examination, and since it is the state that will end up paying them anyway... can the state call them as witnesses or hire them as expert witnesses if the defense chooses not to use them?

Nope. :)

ThinkTank & I asked these similar questions and AZLawyer was kind enough to clarify for us in this post:

From today's news, it appears that the defense will be asking for funds to conduct their own testing on some items.

This video: http://www.wftv.com/video/24257896/index.html

snipped from http://www.wftv.com/news/24253362/detail.html:

Jose Baez told WFTV he and his team saw some things in their first-hand examination of the evidence that will probably lead them to request doing some testing of their own.

“How many tests would you say that you are going to ask for based on what you've seen so far?” WFTV reporter Kathi Belich asked Baez.

“I don't know. I'm not the experts. They tell me what they think, we take it from there and I make the decisions,” he replied.

Baez never said anything about "finding something new".
I really think this is being blown waaay out of proportion and that's just what he wants.

This is another story that I read: http://www.cfnews13.com/article/news/2010/july/122014/Casey-evidence-inspection-wraps-up

This ends a two day inspection of evidence being held by the orange county sheriff's office.

Lead attorney Jose Baez says they found things other investigators missed.

"Without giving away any details, they are obviously plenty of things that you can see that you can't see in a photograph," Baez said.

For those of you wondering about the smell in the car still lingering after 2plus yrs, I can tell you from first hand nose experince, that yes, it is gonna smell, and it will be strong and rank.
I would imagine that the car has been probably sealed up to the best of their ability.

A few years back, my husband got a great deal on a used pick-up that had belonged to an old farmer ~ No frills, no radio, just a basic stripped down farm truck that the guy could take a power washer to when he needed to.
There was no upholstery in the truck, all vinyl interior and mats, etc.

He suffered a heart attack in the truck, and was not found for 3 or 4 days.
The family opened all the windows, and sat it out behind the barn to air out for the summer...then for the winter....this lasted for 4yrs. Iowa weather changes, 4 seasons, and nothing got rid of it with the windows open the entire time.
They went as far as dismantling the dashboard and running soapy water through every vent and tube that they could access.

It still reaked.
My husband got a pretty good deal on it to use for his work truck, but, I could never get in in without gagging.
And, in the winter, to run the heat, oh Lord.
No a/c in the truck, and it smelled as bad in the summer.

They will never rid the car of that smell.
If the Anthony's ever get that car back, poor George will spend his dieing days detailing and cleaning that out.
Heck, it may become his "job".

It's gonna smell folks ~

If I'm not mistaken, the bold part is the reporters words, not JB's. Notice that the bolded statement has no quotation marks in the written article.
Of course they are going to test some evidence, that's why all of the experts have been hired. They can't very well try to dispute it if they don't run their own tests.
ETA info about quotation marks

He did not say they have found evidence which will prove his client's innocence.

Excellent point LambChop. He makes no claim at all that this "newly" discovered evidence helps them in the slightest or assists with ICA's defense. I agree with the other folks who feel this is just a way to get the spotlight off CM's latest performance.

According to WFTV, Jose Baez is saying the defense experts found something new in the evidence they are looking at. Hmmm. Here's a snip from the article:

The defense claims they've made some discoveries.

“There's things you see that you can't see in pictures, that you can’t see in pictures that you see in person,” Baez said.

The defense won't tell WFTV what they've found that they didn't know before or the extent of their discoveries. They do not want WFTV to know exactly what they're looking at, even though the sheriff's office is videotaping and that tape will eventually be released.

How it can be possible for them find something new after all of this time, especially with the questionable Dr. Lee there? I'm thinking Baez is just saying that to make it look like they've found something. I don't think there's any way that all of a sudden new evidence can show up on the same evidence LE has already scoured.

What do you guys think? And what possibly could they have found?

I think they got nothing! If there was something there the DP would not be on the table. The SA wouldn't waste their time prosecutioning KC if there was any evidence that was not examined throughly by their experts. Suddenly, Dr. Lee comes on the scene, and wah lah he finds something that he wants to test. B.S. I don't believe anything JB says, he's just trying to keep his client from having a mental breakdown. Keep in mind he wants KC to be in good spirits tomorrow it's family reunion day. Woo Hoo

Well, THANK GOD Baez cleared that scienctific bombshell up for all the attorneys and forensic people of the world ~!!!

WHO would have known that actually seeing the items in person vs from a picture where all the experts were tech challenged, could make such a huge differance ~!!!!

All bow down to the great and wonderfull BaOZ.....that sneaky man behind the curtain !!!! LOL ~!!!

I don't think they will risk their new evidence being placed in the hands/head of Dr. Lee.
They cannnot be that stupid, can they?? LOL~!!

I expect it to be from the couple from the Netherlands, or the bug guy from Nebraska.

Agreed.

And it's nice to have a more lighthearted conversation here once in a while. We all need that, imo.

They found evidence of a squirrel named Zanny!

I just wonder if the found the evidence of the 2 dead squirrels on the engine or undercarriage...did anyone even think to check for that?????????? LOL

They found nothing new by a visual examination alone....but they're most certainly setting the stage for more BS. JMO

Yeah, they need that special super duper Dr. Lee microscope with the fingernails decals on it.

I am pretty sure at the 1:02 mark in WFTV video, he confirms that there are things they believe are new. Then he evades a direct answer.

I suppose it is up to individual interpretation.

OT - Thank you shotgun09! I am always amazed at everyone's theories and knowledge. Caylee brought me to Websleuths, I am happy to contribute in anyway possible.

I pray that Angel Who Cares gets better soon, she is missed!

Just another thought,

Perhaps Casey told JB where to look at some sort of evidence that she had previously planted to entrap Jesse. They might have been looking for something very specific that Casey told them!!!

From your mouth to God's ears. If KC told JB to look for something while examing the evidence he could be disbarred. How would she know what to tell him to look for unless she put it there? Oh yeah, go there please.
