And then you moved on, the prosecutor concludes. Difficult point for #Madsen. According to this version #Wall died of smoke poisoning, but #Madsen did not do much to help her.

#Madsen says that he felt guilty because #Wall had died and he was aware in advance that his submarine Nautilus had defects. He didn't care so much about the criminal consequences, he says.

It's all about yourself all the time, says the prosecutor, not so much about #KimWall.

My questions:

Was the submarine ever formally tested for seaworthiness? Safety? Is there an authority that allows such vessels to operate? Did the submarine pass official tests?

How could Peter Madsen shut himself out? Was there no emergency button? inside or outside?

What PM tells, suggests that the Danish state was completely absent from this venture ~would the same have applied to the rocket? Can one launch rockets into space and submarine to the bottom of the ocean at one's own whim in Denmark? Let's do it, and that is all there is to it?

He is going into a lot of hopeless technical details about how to get her body out of the subm.

He talks about himself in third person - I hate when people do that.

Wall was trapped inside the submarine after Madsen started the engine with the hatch closed causing it to bind due to decreasing pressure in the submarine, Madsen tells the court #SubmarineTrial#KimWall @SkyNews

@julieastridthom30m
"I tried yelling to Kim down in the submarine, that she had to stop the engine and I don't know if she succeeded but the engine stopped," Madsen says #SubmarineTrial #KimWall @SkyNews

@julieastridthom27m
"The first to happen is that I feel a cloud of warm air on my face when I enter the submarine. When I come down and see Kim Wall lying lifeless in the submarine, I kneel next to her and try to bring her to life," Madsen says #SubmarineTrial #KimWall @SkyNews

@RhiWilliams91
It appears that Madsen is sticking with his third story - carbon monoxide poisoning onboard. #SubmarineTrial #KimWall

@julieastridthom18s
"I will do anything to get Kim overboard," Madsen tells the court, adding that he tried to pull her out the tower of the submarine with a rope, but says she was too heavy #SubmarineTrial #KimWall @SkyNews

Yes they did extend the trial with those days, so it will take longer than they first expected.

There is no live-stream because of filming is not allowed, but I bet there are several foreign journalists that will tweet, I just dont know who.
There is a live blog with updates in several of our media here, but its in danish.

Here are a few of them. There are pics to watch at least.
I wont have time to translate the live-blogs today unfortunately.

Thanks, L_I. I found the first of these useful, but couldn't get Google to translate the live blog in the second one. I also looked at
https://www.dr.dk/live/nyheder/live/2753792
and found it added to the English-language live reports (thank you to all those posting), but with the usual translation oddities sometimes obscuring the meaning, e.g. 'party' for 'dismembering'.

"If I had any idea that I would be in this situation, I had an abundance of lifting gear in my workshop I could have brought," Madsen says, denying that the murder was premeditated as the indictment states #SubmarineTrial #KimWall @SkyNews

Madsen slept for a few hours - Wall's body still in the submarine - after his unsuccessful attempt to lift Wall's body out from the tower of the Nautilus, he said: "At that time, Peter Madsen couldn't handle any more." #SubmarineTrial #KimWall @SkyNews

"There is at no point in time during the period, I knew Kim, any form of sexual activity," Peter Madsen replies to the prosecutor's question of whether he did anything of sexual nature to Wall after her death #SubmarineTrial #KimWall @SkyNews

@RhiWilliams91
Madsen referring to himself in the third person re: one of the arguably more disturbing facts of this case - that he slept next to Kim’s dead body on the sub for several hours before he buried her at sea. #SubmarineTrial #KimWall

This guy is a monster. I hope Kim did die before being tortured, but she probably didn't right? More pleasure to be gained via her agony. He researched vaginal impalement, omg, how does one think of such a thing? I feel sick. Poor, poor Kim. It is so ludicrous that she died accidentally and his thought is to cut her up and throw her to the seas. NOT NORMAL. I had no idea how evil her death was until catching up now that the trial is underway. I feel so many emotions.

From the DR News link I gave above:

"The next part is very difficult to share with the world. The situation is that I have tried to get Kim Wall overboard for an hour. It's not rational, Jakob, I acknowledge that."

  • #853
His wife lived with him in the workshop - a big shed.
That is new to me.
And the cats.

When I worked at Refshaleøen (close to the workshop) a year ago, there was always this cat snooping around garbage cans to try to find food.
Wonder if it was theirs. It seemed domesticated.

#Madsen tells us that he first tries to give #Wall a seaman's grave and throw her body overboard. That is not possible.

#PeterMadsen tells us that at that moment he is shattered and falls asleep.

At no time is there any sexual contact, #Madsen maintains. Once again, he reacts with irritation to the prosecutor's questions.

#PeterMadsen says to the prosecutor: "Jacob, at such a moment it is impossible to think rationally. There is nothing erotic about it.

The prosecutor wants to know more about the belts with which #KimWall was tied up. #Madsen says he knows nothing about these belts.

Now it goes back and forth. Prosecutor is now asking about a "rape game" that #Madsen played with two other women before the submarine voyage.

And then the question from the prosecutor: Why did you cut #KimWall's body into pieces?

#Madsen reacts again irritated. "No Jacob (name of prosecutor), I wasn't sexually aroused by cutting the body into pieces," says Madsen.

#Madsen: At that moment she is dead and the only thing I want is to throw her overboard.

But the prosecutor keeps asking questions: you are interested in videos in which women are tortured. Didn't you get excited by the sawing of the body?

"It was horrible to saw through her, but it all went pretty fast," says #Madsen.

And #Madsen gives another last sneer to the prosecutor: "I am concerned for you asking me if I get excited about sawing through the body".

@julieastridthom2m
Peter Madsen ends his testimony by telling the prosecutor there was nothing that turned him on sexually by dismembering Kim Wall "but I worry for you when you ask like that," he commented #SubmarineTrial#KimWall @SkyNews

[Not sure how comprehensive Sky's reporting has been. I get the feeling there's a fair bit of detail missing, but I suppose it can't easy to get everything tweeted whilst taking notes]

Wait, he's addressing the prosecutor as 'Jakob'?

I wondered if the use of the prosecutor's first name was just Danish egalitarianism, even in these circumstances, like the way pupils call their teachers by their first names. But SATA has just disabused me of that idea. His tone is sneering anyway.

I agree. If it is a private submarine then the public should not be allowed on board for trips imo. He said he has taken 250 people out on it so public safety tests should have been done. He seems to have operated with a lot of leeway from authority.
