I thought it was interesting that his mother, who gave the information on his death certificate, stated he had a bachelor's degree. He also told the counselors that he had a degree from the University of Washington. I don't believe any of this is true.

I wonder if he was getting financial help from his mother to "go to school" during that time and just scammed her.

I know a man in his 70s who financially supported a granddaughter through college. After six years and no degree, he drove across country to visit her and discovered she had been having a grand time on his $$ and not going to school. She pulled up stakes and moved back in with her mother. I hope she is getting therapy. This man was deeply wounded at the betrayal.

According to Jennifer - and all the evidence seized - the porn was readily available, ubiquitous, and massive. Yet Michael claims it was all made up. I suppose the police brought in a trunkful of made-up porn and then planted it around the house, including any porn that contains naked photos of neighbors and family members. Not sure how they pulled that off!

This reminds me of the classic view of pedophiles that they are the true victims because children "come on" to them. Poor them.

Was JP an Eagle Scout? How far did he go in Scouting? And do we know what specific troops he might have belonged to - in what stakes?

Was SP sufficiently active in the church or in the community to be a Scoutmaster at any point?

Just my experience: My husband and I are former LDS. We moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas and he was called to be a scoutmaster right away. My husband was not an Eagle Scout. He had been in scouts when he was a teen. There was not background check done on him, no scout training. He had only one scout and he suggested to his mom that she get her son involved in a non LDS scout program. My husband was not equipped at all to be a scout master, he did not qualify for the position. In the LDS church, the Bishop gives you your calling, (From God). Since it is from God, we were told to not question anything. Don't know why you are asking if JP was an Eagle Scout our Scoutmaster? Google LDS scouts. NOT Mormon bashing, just stating that the LDS church "calls" men, like my husband, who are not equipped/qualified to lead scouts.

Yes, one of the reasons I am wondering is that the greatest number of legal cases against the church for molestation seem to be in Washington. I don't know if that is because WA state laws make such suits more feasible, or if there is a long-standing problem in a few areas there. Oddly, another famous cluster of cases comes from the Bonneville-Teton county area of Idaho, where SP's grandmother Ouita and both her second and third husbands were from. I am wondering if any of what Jennifer calls a 30-year problem was partially caused by molestations in Scouting (pedophiles grooming with porn), and whether it might have been furthered in that way. Wondering if there are other victims out there.

All people, men and women, now have to go through background checks to work in the Boy Scout program. In the old days, the Boy Scouts didn't do background checks regardless of who the sponsoring group was (Mormon, Methodist, Catholic, school, etc) but everyone is checked now. I think this is good.
