In my book, Justin Timberlake should have gotten album of the year!!!

The one song that he sang later in the show...I believe he said that it was the best he had done or his favorite was just beautiful. I think it was said that it would be released really soon. Anyone remember what the name of it was?

That's pretty funny. It wasn't just the "liberals" jumping up. I saw Reba McIntyre standing up during the ovation, smiling and cheering them on. I couldn't believe it because of her snide remarks about the Chicks during the Country Music Awards. Obviously some of the "conservatives" are hypocrits that don't walk their talk like the chicks do.

Excuse me but I believe that it was the chicks that made a crack about Reba right after they returned after their 3 years off. Something about not wanting their CD's on the same player as Reba or Toby K. It was totally uncalled for.
All Reba said was something about putting her foot in her mouth like the chicks. I would have been a lot nastier if it had been me.

Reba McIntyre stood because she is a LADY...not a hypocrite. She makes Natalie look like horse chit in a pile of dog turds. I've never heard anyone else with the exception of the chicks ever say a bad word about Reba. In fact, most of the female country singers have thanked Reba..on stage...for being the loving helpful person that she is...for being there for them when they first started their careers. Never heard the chicks be thanked by anyone...have you. The only thing that Natalie walks is her big mouth.

Re-entry is dreadful. For a whole week I felt so special...and it's rough finding out that I'm really not.

But you are special. I can't afford to hire you a full time butler; is there some other way I can prove it?

I agree with you about McIntyre and what she said; it was a harmless joke (and, geeze, she had to say something after all that controversy).

But what the Chicks said wasn't all that bad either. They just said they didn't care if their CDs weren't sitting in a player with those of Reba McIntyre and Toby Keith. The latter are artists with conservative politics and large country fan bases. The point was that the Chicks are reconciled to their new fan base. They didn't say McIntyre or Keith are bad singers.

This was no different than if the Red, Hot Chili Peppers said they don't care if Carrie Underwood fans don't buy their records. Why should they?

Because that's what I think of them. You can think they are "smart" for doing what they did, I just think it was a dumb move, and they did pay the price for speaking their minds.

We own our own business, and I can tell you if we voiced our political opinions to our customers, we'd probably lose half of them. Not a smart business move. Nor is it my job to voice my political opinions to our customers. They have minds of their own...they don't need me telling them how to think.

I think there is a time and place for everything, and I think the Dumb Chicks should stick to singing. I am sick to death of these types of people spouting their political views. I somehow doubt Natalie would have such a big mouth if she was a WalMart greeter...money sure does make these people think their opinion needs to be known by everyone.
They did stick to singing and won 5 Grammys for it!

Actually yes. I think everyone who voted for the for the Grammys were thanking them. I admire them for being able to turn lemons into lemonade. Their families became closer instead of being torn apart by the death threats and petty mindedness of so called "Americans" who believe they can voice their views but expect the Chicks should shut up. Funny isn't it that a lot of the people who defended Bush back then now think he is incompetent. That's not just my opinion, look at the popularity polls. At least the Chicks are not fickle enough to change their views just to be accepted. They stood by their word and backed each other up through the tough times. Good role models, IMO. Go ahead and bash me. Just remember that you can only do that because this is America. You can have your opinion and I have mine. The best we can do is agree to disagree, but that doesn't mean I don't get to express my opinion, just as you have been doing. That's all the Chicks were doing.

Throwing my hat in the ring...

Of course, the Chicks can say anything they want. I think they were guilty of not knowing their audience (country music nowadays tends more towards flag waving and gives lip service to Jennings, Cash, etc. Cash of course didn't win awards from the CMA's for YEARS... and Toby Keith has been snubbed often too... when they finally gave him an award, he wasn't there!)

Not knowing your audience means they may backlash on you. I think the Chicks were made targets by certain groups, and that was too bad. I also think it was blown out of proportion, considering how much their careers suffered.

I'm glad to see they weren't contrite. They don't have to say Sorry - if you don't like them, don't support them. Fair enough.

I don't know if they didn't "know," or just felt so strongly they (mostly Natalie) had to speak up.

They did win, but they also lost a lot of former fans, and had to cancel certain tour stops. I'd hardly consider winning the Grammys as a form of redemption for them.

I would imagine it's just a matter of time before Natalie's big mouth starts flapping again. lol

They will never regain the fan base that they once had.

That is probably true, but I am guessing the grammy wins and all of this hoopla created many new fans who might not have paid attention to them before.

They certainly do have the rights to voice their opinions, but I do think they really were guilty of not knowing their audience. It was a gamble they took and they did pay the price.

I do however think that the death threats were nuts. I just choose to voice my opinion on what they had to say by no longer purchasing their music or attending their concerts. They voiced their opinion, and I am doing the same thing.

And that's true. There's a whole new generation of fans coming up through the ranks.

Certainly it's a redemption. "Best Album of the Year" redeems a lot of nastiness from talk radio muckrakers.

It may not mean they will ever make as much money as they did at the height of their popularity, but what groups do after so many years?

It's very important to me to have online crushes on strong, happily committed gay men who I've no chance of luring back to the other side of the fence!

I made a joke on this thread last night and it's been bothering me. I flippantly responded to southcitymom's reference to a "fence" between gay and straight by saying the fence in my case was more like a maximum-security wall.

I only meant to say I'm plenty gay and the online crush she was joking about was a safe one.

I did NOT mean to suggest I need armed guards (even metaphorical ones) between me and any woman, most especially not southcitymom. I HATE the stereotype that gay men find women objectionable and I don't want to play to that, even in jest.

There. We can probably file this under "Entirely Unnecessary Posts."

I don't know if it was unnecessary, because words can mislead; but you can be sure that your posts are never irrelevent, never meaningless, rarely uninteresting, and ALWAYS original.

Thanks, Martha, but you forgot "narcissistic." How self-involved am I that I worry about posts to which no one has objected?

(That's a rhetorical question.)

Narcissistic, or "perceptive, sensitive"? You're just fishing for more compliments, right? That's all; I'm done. :)

More compliments? Hardly! Any more compliments and I'll have to confess to something REALLY terrible! Just to achieve a little balance.

Hmmm... just how good of a compliment do I have to come up with in order to get a really juicy confession? <insert grinning maniacally icon here>

I think they seemed genuinely surprised by the reaction. Hubby and I differ on why it was so strong - he thinks it was b/c the comment was made overseas, and seemed disloyal. I think it was that they just made easy scapegoats - country fans were already mad over Toby Keith's treatment in the rest of the media over his *warmongering* song, and then the Chicks said this about Bush.

I think it was more of an off the cuff remark that blew out of proportion. Oh - and I think their publicist screwed up BIG TIME w/ how it was all handled. BIG TIME - it's their job to get the story spun or buried or whatever, and that didn't happen.
