RIP Adam. I never really followed his career but for some reason I liked the guy. He seemed down to earth and honest. So sad that his life ended this way and way too soon. When I first heard this morning that he had passed away I wondered if it was his heart. IIRC, he used to be extremely overweight. I thought possibly that had weakened his heart. I didn't realize he was a recovering addict too (another stresser on the heart I would think).

My prayers are with his family and friends, especially Nicole Richie. She just lost her godfather (MJ) and now a dear friend.

He's on the front page of CNN.com. now. My understanding is he was low profile but DJ'd for everyone important and was a nice guy. He literally did wedding gigs for the big wigs and never forgot where he came from

RIP Adam Michael Goldstein - DJ to the stars.
a talented young man who lived fast, was abused by his dad at a very young age which led him to drugs, and was supposedly clean of drugs for almost 9 years. After his Plane crash a year ago he lived a very laid back low profile life, and was most recently very heart broken over the split with his last girl friend.
What a very sad ending to talented young man's life. :(
Nicole must be a bit devastated right about now. :(
:blowkiss: to his close ones.

TMZ reports that a bag of crack and a crack pipe were found on DJ AM. Crack was his drug of choice prior to getting clean.

The autopsy has been done and no clear cause of death has been reported. Tox reports will take a few weeks to come back.

Usually when someone overdoses, narcotics like heroin or other morphine-based substances are the central culprit. Death by cocaine seems much rarer to me. Of course, he could have been taking narcotics as well (empty pill bottles were in his apartment) - only the tox results will tell that.

My continued prayers for people who loved him.

I never followed him personally to much but I from what I did know about him I respected the fact he had overcome his addiction issues and that he really tried to keep a low profile. He didn't let fame go to his head and tried to not be photographed by paparrazzi and all that stuff. He did not seek out media attention and he really seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.

I am sure no matter what he was feeling at the time he did not want to die especially like this - alone and battling PTSD and addiction. Speaking from experience - the old adage 'once an addict always an addict' is very true. Your brain chemistry is changed forever by drugs and in times of stress, strive and depression it is instinctual for a recovering addict to turn towards drugs as an escape and as a catalyst to just feel good for while.

Another celebrity death caused by drug overdose. He must have been suffering from PTSD, that was my first thought and is it reported above.
RIP ADAM-DJAM. I wish these folks would try and get help first, what a shame!

I read today (sorry I don't have a link...it was probably tmz.com) that he had been prescribed Xanax for anxiety. The article stated that it was an "iffy" drug to prescribe to an ex-addict. Something about it may cause the addict to relapse. I think that's probably what happened with Adam.

Here's the link http://www.tmz.com/page/2/

I also saw where Blink 182 canceled their concert for this evening because of his death. I worry about Travis Barker now. Between the difficulties he's having with his ex-wife and the aftermath of the plane accident, it has to be really tough on him.

If I had to guess, I would say that the pain killers and anti-anxiety drugs he was prescribed after the airplane crash may have triggered his addiction. It's tricky for anyone in recovery to take those types of drugs, but sometimes we have to.

All my continued love and prayers for those who loved him. By all accounts, he was a good man.

From Perez Hilton:

"Friends close to DJ AM have told officials that the day before his death, he had announced he would be going to rehab, as he had relapsed and was heavily using drugs.

The insiders told investigators that on the day before his death, his West Coast manager and recovery sponsor flew to NYC to see DJ AM (aka Adam Goldstein) to discuss his erratic behavior in the previous weeks. When they arrived at his apartment, DJ AM only let his sponsor inside.

That's when, to the horror of his friend, DJ AM "lit up a crack pipe and popped pills" right in front of him.

From there, he promised his manager and sponsor that after his gig in Las Vegas last Friday, he would check himself into a rehab in California. But, as we know, he never made it to that performance as he was found dead the next day.

Though the cause of death won't be determined for a few more weeks, it is sad to think that if it was drugs that killed him, he was on his way to salvation, but was just too late.

Very sad."

I am heartbroken at the thought that this might have been suicide. A relapse after a long period of being clean can definitely leave someone feeling suicidal.

It does break your heart, and it also makes you realize the power of depression and addiction. For someone who had so much going for him (even with another break up with a girlfriend), handsome, talented, and well loved, he couldn't save himself.

RIP Adam, I pray you know just how many people cared, loved and admired you.

I agree, SCM.. I really hope it wasn't suicide too, either over a relapse or over a breakup. I have People and Entertainment Tonight breaking news set up on my Google home page and last night there was an article where his girlfriend spoke out. She said they were absolutely NOT broken up and she still loved him. I can't find the article anywhere now or else I would post it here. I didn't really believe her though..from everything I read, she had broken up with him. But I really hope and pray it wasn't suicide.

Everything I've read points to a breakup too. I hope the media doesn't put all the blame on this young lady.

The girlfriend released a statement yesterday that they had not broken up and were together as a couple.

Yes - I read the statement from his girlfriend too, Cambria.

Honestly, I am hard-pressed to think it wasn't suicide based on the facts we know. I have some experience with narcotics addiction in general and oxy in specific. Even for someone with tolerance, 9 oxys in your stomach and 1 in your mouth is NOT someone with an opiate tolerance trying to get higher. I mean, he was still eating oxys as he was nodding off for good - those are the actions of someone trying to take enough to go to sleep for ever.

I doubt it was suicide 9 pills may seem like alot to most people but to those familier with the horrors of additicion it does not seem to out of line (the dosage of each pill etc. would be needed to be known) also a person builds up a tolerence to opiates very quickly so what may seem like a deadly dose to some one that has only taken them occationally can be anything but for an addict.

Mixing opiates and benzodiazepines is a very deadly drug combination a many more ppl than you realize die from this. The deadliness of this combo is not well know and I wish it was better publisized. I had a close family member that passed away from this combination. The dose of either drug was not a lethal drug it is the interaction of the two.

Cocaine and opiates is also a very deadly combination. This is better know, it has been the cause of many high profile deaths such as Chris Farly, John Belushe (sp?), and river phoenix.

Mix all three together all its the proverbial tugging on superman's cape.

As some one who has experience in these activities (many years ago) I have to, respectfully, disagree with your opinion. In fact I feel the evidence shows the opposite. If someone was planning deliberate suicide they would empty the entire bottle out at once and take them all at once. If he had one in his mouth it suggests that he was taking them periodically. This suggests to me someone who was just trying to get high, seeking oblivion but not death.

None of us will ever know for sure what his motive was, but the one thing I can say 100% for sure is that trying to continue to taking more while you are already nodding out is not out of the ordinary behavior for a drug addict at all. It may seem like suicidal behavior to any sane person, but, irregardless of how totally sane they maybe in every other area (some are some aren’t) addicts are not sane when it comes to their addition.

Knowing about this myself and knowing people who have died this way and having a family member die in a way that is really really eerily similar to this, what happened almost for sure is he took an amount of each drug that did not seem like a lot to him (regardless of how it seems to a normal person) probably an amount he had taken many times in the past, but it was the combination of these drugs that did him in.

P.S. Oxycotine is a drug when eaten that has a time release that is supposed to administer the dosage over time. The reason it became so popular as a street drug was it had a much higher dosage than most readily available pain killers. It could have this because when taken responsibly the dosage was spread out over time and you could take it once a day instead of 6 or 8 loritabs a day. This was desirable in people with chronic pain due to the damage the filler in the pills does to your liver. However if you crush the pill and either snort it or shoot it the time release does not work or you can filter it out getting the full dose at once. I've heard recently in response to the abuse they came up with a pill that you can not separate out or get around the time release. Some this means when you eat oxycotine it is a slow release pain killer which is not what you would want to take if your goal was to kill yourself.
